My homemade heat blanket helped with the blow torch effect on my leg but a bit less heat would be nice. So, I picked up 50' of the 2" Ti wrap from DEI. It's much nicer to work with this vs the fiberglass wrap. No need to wet it down and no itchy arms.

I'm thinking about putting the heat shield back on but I'm not sure I can w/o damaging the wrap.

Took it out for a quick ride to burn it in. The RHS definitely felt cooler but I still plan on adding the heat barrier to the inside of the frame.

This will help but not resolve the heat issue with the 06 bikes. If I still had mine I would be looking, check yours, why the oil cooler did not work right. I would also be looking at, as some have done, a fan overide to control the heat. At the moment you have moved the larger amount of heat to the next stop point ie the can. This large steel can is a very BIG heat sink. A free flowing can helps a lot. Or at least it did on my 06 bike.

I plan on cleaning out the oil lines and cooler to see if it helps.

The bike isn't running as hot as it when it started acting up in Nov of last year. The heat isn't unbearable now, just more than I'd prefer.

But really, how much heat can you avoid when you're sitting on a 1203cc air cooled engine?

Now THAT is a good question.

With some work my 06 bike was not to bad. The 10 bike runs very cool and more along the lines of a normal bike. On the other hand there are other reasons, big list, for that.

I put the shield back on wifey's bike after TI wrap. She said it was hotter with it on and had me take it back off. YMMV

Murf2, I never thought about the shield acting as a heat sink. I'll see how it does and report back.

They fitted an 8 line over a 6 line oil cooler to the later bikes. Also with new type oil lines.

Nice job on the wrap! It's something I've thought about, but not yet tried. Over the winter I had my motor rotated, and did some insulation on the frame. Seems a little cooler, will know better when the weather warms up. I hope you give an impression after you've ran it with the wrap for a while.

Thanks Arry, it went much smoother with a second set of hands.

We did a long two-up ride today with temps in the mid 70s. The wrap helped quite a bit. I think the frame insulation will take the last edge off.

Worth every penny of the $60.

Uly_man, do you know if the larger cool/lines will fit on the 06?

The only thing you guys may want to check into on the oil cooler deal,is somewhere they changed the oil pump to put out more volume, and these bikes don't put out a lot of oil pressure, and that bigger cooler may cause some issue somewhere else in the engine.

07 had a better oil pump than 06 but in 08 they put in a completely different style pump. That's why the cam side of the engine looks so much different on the 08+.

After replacing my TPS, it seems to be running cooler. No scientific data to back that up, just my butt and thigh thermometer.
