A bit ago I put the stock ECM and muff on my 06.Did a TPS reset just cause which immediately seemed to give it a bit of a stumble off idle it seemed. Once your past say 1800 RPM the performance is stellar in comparison to the race ECM and performance muff. Question is regarding low speed stuff,best I can explain is its surges just puttin along in slow traffic around 5-10 mph and just seems really sloppy down low. Is this inherent to the stock ECM? I really dont wanna go back to the other parts as its to damn loud and anything over 4800rpm falls off bad.

I would redo the tps reset. Did you reset the AFV to 100%? Have you replaced the oxygen sensor? After I replace mine and did a tps reset, bike is silky smooth above idle.

I would also do the TPS again, however I would clean the throttle plate first. Then make sure it is closing all of the way in the bore.

I did a TPS reset on a Uly one time that made it run worse. We brought it back in and cleaned the throttle plate of carbon that was keeping it from closing completely. Reset the TPS then it ran great.

When doing TPS reset; engine should be at operating temperature.

Mine is an 08, but doing the breather reroute smoothed out all of the sputtering at parking lot speed.

Well chit...It think it was cold when I did the TPS, I will redo it when hot. Hate to admit, but it after the reset it ran worst. The AFV, I did not as Im still learning this stuff and didnt wanna screw up something. Have to read up on that one also. Regarding the throttle plate, I back off the idle till I can lightly close the throttle and feel the plate hang up as suggested in the manual and by everybody,then do the reset. Far as cleaning it?? throttle body spray cleaner or??

Even my 10 bike will not do it? Its the nature of the engine and you are asking too much of it. You will need to rev the engine a little and slip the clutch.

Nature of the engine due to cam profile maybe? Seems rich on the bottom but it may be much in the TPS reset I need to redo and perhaps AFV settings as suggested.Im no FI or computer guru thats for sure, carbs no problem LOL..

Err no. The "nature" of the engine is the two 600cc pistons in a V setting.

Id have to disagree its in the V design and believe its in the fuel management.This base this off my Carbed 01 Electra glide, 95" kit, ported,polished,CC'ed heads, 510 cams bla,bla is moreless butter smooth at all rpms. The KTM 950,Duc's or other V's did not display similar traits, all non FI.

Yes that is true to a point. EFI does not like low volts.

The 06 bikes do start hard unless the battery is at 100%. Even then if you have to re-start it a number of times it goes "down hill" fast.

To make the 06 bike idle right the TPS must be perfect. It is also the "core point" from which the ECM works from. Get it wrong and the bike will not only idle bad it will run bad as well.

The AFV will change due to conditions as that is its function. 100 is ZERO as per the fixed fuel map settings. A lower number is less fuel and a bigger number is more fuel. This will vary from about 85 to 110. These can be seen in a logged run.

A 06 bike should idle well enough and not have any problems like flat spots. If it does then something is not right. It will NOT run/idle quite as smooth as a 10 bike but should be ok.

The gearing can make it tough to low-speed but if you do it properly by working the clutch against the rear brake...you can easily move at a crawling pace. I do it all the time. Comparing it to an FLH is apples and oranges - different gearing, vastly different engines, about twice the weight on the FLH to soak up vibes and jerks...not a very good comparison at all.

Set the tps the right way and I guarantee you'll see a difference.

I recall, some years ago, seeing one at a set of lights. I could see the rider, I could see the bike but I could not see the engine? I had to do a "double take" as it was just a blur. Sort of like everything else was sharp with a "fuzzy bit" in the middle?

I dumped my 06 last weekend practicing slow speed, tight turns in an empty parking lot. The 06 will do it but Uly_man is right, takes a lot of clutch work!

Have you replaced your IAT sensor? Also, check to make sure your TPS isn't loose. Mine was loose from the throttle body.

Hard to get true TPS readings to the ECM if it's wiggling around.

Here's a link to a thread where I added some pictures to Treadmarks procedure for an absolute zero. Did wonders for mine. This procedure is done cold. You have to do it cold because your changing too much. Cold reset will allow it to run but you need to get it hot and reset it again to finish the job right.

Thanks Guys, Treadmarks procedure sounds like a great idea. I did do a TPS reset when I got in this evening, AFV said 100% also. Seems like it cleared up the stumble off the bottom just from me goosin it while in the shop.

Not only does it need to be fully warmed up for a 'puter TPS reset, but it needs to warm up before it will run well.

I fire mine up without touching the throttle letting it idle until I get my riding gear on(four to five minutes or so, longer in winter). This always allows for it to run well starting out. If I just crank it up and take off, even in temps up to 70F degrees, it will choke and puke for the first couple of miles.

Oh yeah, spray carb cleaner while the engine is warmed up. Leave the throttle open for a while, that will evaporate most of what runs down the intake.
