So the Uly had not been running as well as usual. Occasionally difficult to start. Occasionally rough(er). Fuel mileage dropped well below normal. Then, on a rainy day, the Uly dropped a cylinder when I exited the freeway.

Idling on one, but above 2.5k rpm, seemed to hit on both. At over 54k miles, my thought turned to the plug wires. Ordered new and replaced the plugs too. The rear wire was just fine. At first, I did not even notice the damage to the front wire.

It was not completely clear, but I think that the head of a zip tie was chewing through the wire. Must have been an exciting light show under there.

Sometimes due to the tight clearances, the front plug wire will rub up against the motor and do that, and you will get your symptoms when it does wear through. Luckily it is an easy fix by replacing the plug wire.

I see you have an '08. The '06's had that happen due to the front plug wire laying on the idle adjuster screw cable. '08 does not have the adjuster screw cable.

Funny, my '06 made the front plug wire look just like yours.

That's what I thought too, Froggy. I took a good look at the new wire and it was well clear of the engine. Oddly enough, the wear spot is on the AWAY from the engine site. If you notice, the wear spot is just beyond the coil-side boot. I suspect the wiring harness along the front motor mount bar.

Mine actually wore the cable housing instead.

Stock HD wires are fine. After market brand Magnacore fits Buells and have been reported as great replacements.
