Quick question. I'm removing the throttle body on my 06 Uly,(broken throttle shaft ). What type of tool do I need to loosen the two bolts holding the intake flange. Nothing I have fits. |

let me try again. The bolts are hex head 1/2", located on the primary side. They are mounted to the cylinder heads thru slots on the intake flange.Page 4-119 figure 4-100 in the manual. |

Oh, I thought they were allen heads. I think I got them off with an open end wrench after rotating the engine down. Lots of little turns as I recall. |

I just used a short box end wrench turned upside down. There's no need to rotate the engine. One Summer I had the TB out 4 times trying to get the intake seals to seal. You might have to cut a wrench off to make a special tool. Get a chinese cheapy, they aren't that tight. I had a shortened allen for the other side. I replaced the hex heads with a couple of old Harley 12 point screws, that made it a lot easier. |

I"ll keep trying. As soon as i get it out I'll be purchasing your throttle shaft. Hopefully I can do this and save the $900.00 estimate from the HD shop. Barry |

You do have the scoops off of the bike right? I'm assuming so. There is also a small screw on top. You'll have to remove the coil to get to it and you can't see it. Hopefully that's in the book. I remember the first time I did it. It took a lot of time, I wasn't sure I was doing it right, it was getting frustrating and I was all alone. Wait, what were we talking about? |

There are 2 T27 fasteners holding the throttle body to the coil bracket. is this what you are looking for? |

I'm not recommending this, but I was able to replace the throttle shaft without removing the TB. YMMV. |

I was at my son's house on a trip through Fla. I cut off one of HIS cheap home tool box wrenches. Highly recommend that plan! It took me about two hours and I did not rotate the engine. I replaced my seals and that wasn't even the fix for the problems my Uly was having, but it had to be done to be eliminated as a possibility. Have some good carb cleaner on hand and a brass brush, the bottom of the runners in my intake were caked with carbon buildup. |

I'm not recommending this, but I was able to replace the throttle shaft without removing the TB. YMMV. Technically you can change the shaft but getting the old one out without dropping a screw or butterfly down the intake or the problem of swaging the end of the screws to physically keep them from coming out. I realize loctite is good stuff but I wouldn't take the chance. Every carb or throttle body I've seen has the screws swaged in some way. |

yesterday I managed to remove the two upper allen bolts at the intake flanges. For one I used a cut down allen, for the other I used the cutoff piece and a small 1/4" wrench. This morning I'll cut one of my 1/2" wrenches in half and work on the lower bolts. One more question.I was unable to restart the bike with the air cleaner box off. I did turn the bike over with the fuel pump electrically disconnected. So I expect some pressure still in the fuel line. Do I disconnect the line at the pump or the fuel rail? Thanks for all the help. I wouldn't be trying any of this without the help and knowledge on this forum. |

Give it a bath and remove the tps sensor to remove the rest of the shaft once the butterfly is removed. Will ship the shaft tomorrow. |

Thanks Joe, I appreciate that. Motobear46, I'm sorry I wasn't able to get to the Post office today. A friend called and needed me to dial in his carburetor on his Harley. (He was getting 23 MPG!) He just bought the bike and evidently the previous owner didn't know what he was doing! By the time I finished they were closed. I'm on vacation this week so I'll get it first thing Monday morning. |

Barry, Pick up a tube of Sil-Glyde for lubing the intake seals. A tube will last for years but save you time and insure a good seal the first time. Brad |
