After I had warmed my engine to complete the oil change i could hear bubbling inside the frame. I noticed gas was dripping from the small hose near the swingarm.

Why would the bike do this as the tank was not over filled.

Because the tank (frame) is encompassing an air cooled engine. What you are describing is the fuel venting. Mine did that a lot before I put the rider comfort kit on it, it still does it sometimes, but it is waaaaay less often.

When the fuel gets low enough in our frames, it can actually boil in there. Yes, it gets that hot. Not dangerous, but a good reason to keep the tank half full instead of half empty

There's a reason for the charcoal canister on 50 state bikes.

So, stupid question.... Should I *not* be running my bike down to empty then? I actually do that quite a bit on long trips. Never thought anything of it.

Thanks,
Russ

It won't hurt a thing, just gives the possibility of a drip or 2.

I usually just let mine sit outside of the garage until it quits dripping. Somewhere around 30 minutes.
