Frog et all, does the front plastics with the windscreen crack easily like the city-x plastics do? Thinking Hero Blue for the Uly. Had to replace the plastics once on my City-x because of the frail plastics. Anyone running the translucent plastics on their Uly? How's it goin?

I'm running the translucent orange the usual breaking point is now solved with the upgrades set of washers that have 2 rubber rings.on the fly screen i found some washers with rubber on the rear side in a lot bigger than the screws and on the lower bolts of the air box i found some other washers with rubber on the rear side I modified to make them fit.

No but, unless you know, you should take care about other fixings on the bike as well. I do not know why but somethings like re-fitting the front cowl must be done with care as it is VERY easy to cross thread the bolts.

The bike is easy to work on the hard part is, or can be, the fixings. Why anyone would use a VERY fine thread on alloy or a locking paste that near welds the bolts in is something I do not understand. I have NEVER seen it before on anything.

The flyscreen is made the same as the CityX one, but they are not fragile. The only time I've seen the plastics crack is from overtorqing the screws, otherwise they are fine.

A few years ago I rear-ended a stopped car, my hero blue flyscreen got scuffed, the windshield shattered, and the adjustable windshield brackets bent, but there are still no cracks on the flyscreen. I still run that flyscreen on my current XT.

Quality build is the key and the Buell, mostly, IS a quality build. But many do not know what that might be for many things.
An example of this is here?

I have just bought this used, they do not make them anymore, desk mounted hobby vice. The quality of build is just superb, "engineers grade" and something that is VERY hard to find these days. I paid TWICE, not like me at all, the cost of other things new but this, unlike I have had before, will last forever. In other words "quality" is worth paying for. You just need to KNOW what that is.

Very very true. Watch the airbox plate bolts! I'd almost rather have rusty old 70's hardware.

I found it to be too easy to cross-thread the screws on the flyscreen.
Upon closer inspection, I found that the threads were cut a bit poorly.
I chased the six holes with a tap and now I can start all of the screws by hand.

I suggest you chase the holes for the flyscreen. I think some of them were done in a hurry or something.

Maximum, there is a guy in the Uk that can make your fly screen in translucent blue, he usually does them in smoke, but i enquired and he made me one in translucent orange and he pre drilled the holes, much better than gustafson that doesent pre drill the holes plus the plastic is 5mm compared to gustafson that is 3mm.

Question: Does the new flyscreen come with new grommets installed or do I have to take my old ones off of the thrust blue and install on the new hero blue plastics? If so how from front to back or back to front? tanks

If anyone is interested, I have a NEW, never mounted, Hero Blue Uly flyscreen and a USED XB Hero blue airbox cover with the rubber "X" removed. I started to sand the glue residue off from the "X". Finish sanding the glue and a coat of clear paint and it would look like new. The airbox cover is not cracked anywhere.

I have a Buell airbox bra that I'll throw in. You'll need some new velcro to attach it to the a/b cover
