Q 1:
Will Y0500.3AK instrument panel fit to 2006 Uly as it's oem number is Y0500.1AK ?
Q 2:
My bike is km/h, what if replacement cluster is mp/h ?
Q 3: Will odometer show original numbers or start from zero?

Just an educated guess here, but I'm pretty sure the odometer data is stored in the instrument cluster. I've swapped ECMs on both an X1 and an XB12XT - odometer reading didn't change on either of them. Since there's really nowhere for that data to be stored other than the ECM and instrument cluster..

OK, I'll guess at Q2; Needle should sweep the same on both. The numbers on the face plates will be different.

Thanks guys : )
It doesn't matter if odometer starts from zero and i don't mind if speed is mph.
personally i think (why would they made chances...) that maybe they only made different backround to rpm section.

But does anyone know if connectios are same as 2006

You will want the .1AK speedometer, there were internal changes to the cluster for the 08+ models.

When you order the cluster, you will need to specify that it is KPH and the mileage, they will program it from the factory.

Ourdee - My understanding the sweep is the same, but ODO will need to be programmed differently to count in kilos instead of miles.

Froggy- any details on the changes? I'm just wondering since my original 07 speedometer works fine with my 09 engine and wiring harness.

Yea I'm not 100% on the differences, but I do know that the older cluster works on the newer bikes, like your setup, but I haven't seen anything confirming the newer cluster works on the older bikes so thats why I recommend getting an original cluster.

I believe (but don't have any proof/facts) that the 08+ clusters have more functionality behind the scenes, similar to the 1125 clusters. I honestly have not taken them apart for side by side comparison, or even looked at the wiring diagrams.

Damn...
My needles are stuck like this:

I could get newer version for $100, but older version is about $220...
I really was hoping i could use y0500.3ak : (

Jarmo ,You live in a nice country there!
I was at the superrally Seinajoki in 2009.

Have you tried with disconnect and re-connecting the battery cables if the gauges start working again?

I have a kmp instrument cluster from an dec 06 STT ,14225 on odo
number on the back-side Y0501.3AC

only the housing is cracket and there are missing a couple bulbs ,but the gauges are working perfect the last time i checked and there is no damage on the inside parts.

I have some pics if you're interested

I have checked the '06 and '09 electrical diagrams and they are the same. I have had my '06X cluster fitted to my '09 XT and that worked fine but I haven't had them actually fitted the other way around ('09 to the '06) so I can't say for certain it would work but I suspect it would. If I can find half an hour I will do the swap for you to check.

However, I did do an experiment with momentarily connecting the battery connection as I seem to recall seeing the instruments 'stuck' like that on my '06 at one point when I had a broken wire for the cluster 'keep-alive' voltage.
The instrument cluster has a direct connection to the battery that provides 'keep alive' power to the clock and tripmeters. On the '06's it is quite common to have this wire break where it splices into the power wires going to the ignition switch.
If this connection is broken (with the ignition switched off), and then re-made the instrument cluster goes through the start-up sweep of both speedo and tacho. If the connection is broken again before that sweep completes the needles will stop mid-sweep. I re=created that situation today:

Do the needles stay stuck when you turn the ignition on? If not then I would be looking at the wire that connects to pin 2 on the cluster connector. It splices into the power wires right where the loom goes through the guide at the front of the headstock.
Here is a 'temporary repair I did on mine 90,000km ago.

My other question would be - if the needles are stuck like that when you turn the ignition on do the odometer, tripmeter, clock displays work? If not I woud also check the switched +12 volts that goes to pin 12 of the electrical connector for the cluster. The ground connection is pin 13 so that could also be a culprit if everything is dead.

Thanks guys!
I was at Seinäjoki too, maybe you noticed me, i was hevily drunk... : )
I have to look wires later, at the moment i'm chancing my triples to -08 so the bike is bit disassembled. But what you say Rays, might be the reason why needles are like they are. I don't remember if clock was working, but odometer was ok.

there were a lot of people wasted and but it was a lot of fun and jokes.

we had a great 6500km trip ,also arrived accidentally at the North kapp!

Let's hope your electrical issue is easy repairable like Rays suggested.
