Ok so changed out the IAT sensor and it now seems to be working the way it should. Run a log at idle and its fine. Engine 181C at idle, the IAT is at 24C and ambient of 14C. Stand the bike and run the engine again at idle and the IAT started to (from 40C) come down and it did it fast as well. In other words the IAT picked up on the cooler air going into the engine which it was not doing AT ALL before with the old IAT sensor. It just got hotter and hotter. The IAT does pick up air temp from the engine if standing, which seems about right, but it is now changing as needed and the bike runs as it should again. Before the IAT was NOT going down again and thats NOT right. I will, at some point, do a "real time" road comparison/test log on the IAT to airbox temp just to see how close they are. Opps missed this one. The point of this post is that these, and I do not know why, sensors do mess up? The IAT is a "big deal" because it tells the ECM what the "air density" is at a given point via the air temp. The ECM will then try and change various things to match that including the engines timing. If the ECM thinks it is in the Shara desert at 50C and your bike is in NYC at 0C its not going to run quite the same. (Message edited by Uly_man on October 25, 2012) |
