Looking at the 06 and 2010 ECM setups I, unless anyone knows better, can not see why you could not do this on the 06 bikes. If I recall right Buell can not but EBR may be able to on there ECMs. Seems to me that you just need to add the "command" lines and would have no effect, apart from making the bike run at a more stable temp, on anything else. I could be wrong.

I would sure try if I still had my 06 bike anyway because it works. If you have any thoughts on this subject please add them to the post. If anyone wants to try this and knows how to flash there 06 ECM I may mod the file for them.

Just a thought if it helps. You can always go back.

They cannot.

I asked the same question. My understanding is the coding is not present in the early ECM's.

Bought an 07 that po had installed rider comfort kit on and had dealer flash ecm with new fan logic. Behaves totally different from my 06. Fan runs nowhere near as much.

I asked Al about this since I put rck on the 06. He prefers the original fan logic. Good enough for me. More cooling does sound better.

So are you saying it can be done then Dan.

"My understanding is the coding is not present in the early ECM's." No it is not but I was thinking it can be added. Its the XDF file. VS on and off. And some other things. Just a thought.

I installed a rider comfort kit on my 06, fan rarely comes on now.

I have the physical comfort kit on my '06.

My understanding is, the 08-up ECM's "see" not only engine temp and RPM, but also vehicle speed, and that allows the updated fan logic. I don't think the pre-08 ECM sees vehicle speed - the speed sensor feeds only the speedometer, which eliminates one leg of the later fan logic (the "no fan below 5 mph" part).

If you want more cooling...and are ECM-smart...simply lower the "fan on" trigger temperature. You won't have the low speed silence part, but you'll have improved cooling.

Danair - your bike may have the latest flash...but if it's an '07, there is no "latest fan logic". I'm willing to bet your fan continues to run at stoplights, etc, and does not turn off below 5 mph.

"My understanding is, the 08-up ECM's "see" not only engine temp and RPM, but also vehicle speed," You could well be right Ratbuell. As you said way more going on with the later bikes. Thank you for the info.

I have an 06, and there's a couple settings I'd like to change next time I get into my original ECM. First I'd like to lower the trigger temp like Ratbuell says. right now the fan doesn't run even when it's hot, but kicks on as soon as I turn it off - that makes no sense. When I added the comfort kit, the fan ran much less, but I suspect the extra cooling is cooling the temp sensor itself, not so much the engine. Also, I'd like to find the box that holds the timer value for fan run time after shut off. My fan runs exactly 120 seconds(2 mins)everytime after shut off no matter how hot it is. Even the book says it's supposed to run 2 mins. So there must be a hexadecimal value somewhere in the map where I could change it to 2 seconds. That oughta fix it. I chatted with E B R about it and they wouldn't change any fan logic. But I bought one of their ECMs anyways just in case, thus this project is sort of low on the priority list.....

Check your oil cooler. It should be VERY hot after a good ride. Mine never even got warm most of the time and the bike run VERY HOT all the time. The oil cooler is a primary cooling system on the bike and if not working will need more fan run time to cool the engine. Which burns more amps and adds extra wear to the fan.

Do a logged run and monitor your air and engine temps. The "key off" run time has two speeds. If you can make it work I would do a "key on" low fan speed based on engine temp IE low speed comes on at about 150C.

The fan rarely runs on my 07. On 06 its on when I exit the freeway and all around town. 07 only when shut off and extreme ambient and traffic.

danair, anything different cooling wise between your 06 and 07? My 06 runs like your 07. I have the comfort kit bolted on, otherwise its just like it was when it rolled off the showroom floor - engine cooling wise.

Both have identical cooling kits. 07 runs way "crisper" than the 06, but it does have only half the miles. neither bike has ever overheated and gone to skip spark, they just behave totally different.
BTW, I flashed the 07 fuel/timing/map to the 06 to see if it would run that sweet.....not much difference again. But you jump off the 06 (which is no slouch) and mount the 07, its another world. ??????

Danair - Do your 06 and 07 bikes have the same ECM version number and is the file EXACTLY the same?

I didn't cut and paste, I just fetched map, burn map. Have to check ecm's, but I asked here way back if this was doable.
