Had a van with a trailer (failed to see the trailer as it was really low to the ground and behind the front end of a car that I was going around on the left ) pull out in front of me on Friday at lunch. Left leg took a 4" laceration below the knee, 8 stitches and I was in the hospital for 3 hours (plus I have lots of happy drugs!) plus went home with a knee isolation brace. Bike wasn't as lucky. Left paneer was destroyed (stock bag) as well as the left blinker head. Most of the rest of the damage was scratches with the exception of the frame puck location. The top of the left frame puck looks like it dented the tank (but I can't know for sure), doesn't look or feel like it went through and the bike seems to ride straight (and was ridden from the accident to my home 4 miles away by a friend). I had barkbusters on and they saved all the controls and handlebars, though I didn't look over every detail to see what was damaged. My thought is that the insurance will total it and I'll be thinking about keeping the bike and bond filling the dent and painting it to look like normal. Thoughts on pressure testing / leak testing the tank so that I'm not making the wrong decision and then it comes back to haunt me later? (Message edited by easttroy on September 17, 2012) |

Sorry to hear about your bit of bad/good luck. I am glad to hear you were not severely hurt how deep is the dent? If you try to pressurize the tank, I would use regulated nitrogen molecules are smaller to see smaller possible leaks. (I still would be VERY careful). |

Sorry Easttroy, but glad you are 'relatively' okay and will be back riding! There are SO MANY ways the finger of fate can reach out and poke us! Best to ya'. |

It may seem silly, but if you do not see any visible cracks or leaks in the tank, take the bike outside and fill it up with gas. Be prepared to have a leak and have every thing ready to drain the tank, but gasoline itself will find any tiny leaks or cracks in the tank. If there are no leaks that part of the bike is ready to ride, and you have not put any foreign substances in the tank that will need to be cleaned out. If it does leak, WTH, you had to drain it anyway. Glad to see that you are not injured any further and the bike may be able to go again. |

Easttroy Sorry to hear about your incident. Hope it all works out and no long term pains. Take a look at the thread on my bike I am thinking of selling. If your bike gets totaled have them or you give me a call on my 2009. Lots of spares and ZERO issues. Here is the thread link. Good luck! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/692680.html?1347324231 BDRAG (Message edited by bdrag on September 19, 2012) |

After the failure of my 07 engine, I parted out the bike. I still have the frame which, as far as I can tell, is in perfect shape. Yours for shipping. Or you can drive up to Seattle and pick it up. PM me if interested. |
