so i was thinking,... the stocker is growing on me, BUT i would like it to have the option of growling more at idle...

so here is what i propose and you guys help me iron out the details and i'll try it.

i wanna build an exhaust that will sound louder at idle than at speed... i had a boat with 454's and they had silencer type exhaust that were basically strait at idle but got quieter as you got the rpms up.

then maybe add a switch that would put it in quiet mode full time for town cruising or sneakin in late?

i need to know what the logic is on the exhaust valve, as in when does it open, what does the ecm need to see for it to open/close. or is this thing a simple it opens at X=rpm closes again at X=rpm?

basically a cut out for the bike but working opposite of the valve now?
what do you guys think of this idea?

I know it can be disabled, but I don't know if the knowledge is out there or not on what to change in order to set a new transition point for the valve opening. Hopefully, someone here knows.

Just a thought, but you could adjust the cable so that the valve is slightly cracked open when the motor is closed so it doesn't seat all the way. That may give you a little more burble at idle. Whether or not it affects performance in a noticeable way, I don't know. I bet not, but the only way to know is to try!

Just watch that the cable isn't to tight. You do not want the actuator stall due to the valve reaching the end of the stroke.

Excellent point, though if I remember correctly, there are still several degrees of rotation available to the valve once the motor reaches the end of its stroke. Definitely check it though.

Well I think I'm on a new direction,.... Another port in the pipe operated by an electric valve like a cut out? Put it on the tail of the pipe like a dual outlet? Then the factory valve will do its part and the aux valve will open it up

My Uly is an '06. I found a nice sound by adding a right tail pipe in the rear chamber. I cut a hole in the upper side of the rear chamber in front of the idler pulley, then welded a curved 1 1/2" diameter tail pipe on it. It is louder at idle and when riding slowly. At speed I do not even hear it.

Shoot Ourdee a pm. He had a cut out switch in the exhaust servo circuit. He may be able provide answers to some of your questions.

yeah i seen that but i think i want the cut out at the rear of the bike... i think that will yield loudest sound at idle?

Back pressure is an important part of engine function. You may sacrifice smooth drive-ability if you do this. (think popping and stuttering). It may also devalue the bike at time of sale.

"Back pressure is an important part of engine function." The valve/can system on this bike was fitted to improve low rev noise and the mid range revs.

I fitted a Remus can on my 06 bike and a have a Stealth can on the 2010 bike. I have had no "mid range" (or other) flat spots, smooth drive-abilty, pinging, stuttering, back fires, idle or other problems on either bike. On the 06 bike I even wired up the cable on the stock can and it was still fine.
