Bdrag,

Just a thought. The next bike you get, either don't get on a forum and get too specific about personal details or riding habits, or LIE!!!!! : ) When I see this I think, hum, do I want a bike ridden by a person of considerable bulk, at breakneck speed, ROUTINELY!!!!!! Just sayin', Man. Something to think about.

Best of luck with the sale.

GOOD POINT! HAHahaaaaa.

Nope! I tell it like it is brother. The bike has been a blast. It runs great. The bike has basically be ridden as it was designed. Its been ridden. I am a big guy and it doesn't mind. Its been the most comfy Bike I have ever owned. Its been well maintained and has been trouble free. I love the fact that with a set of allen wrench's and 5 minutes it can go from bagged tourer to street fighter in looks! Ahahahaaaa. I have yet to touch a peg but have out ridden all my buds, even those with much faster bikes in the twisties.

Everyone at some point will test their bike. I have done this with no shame. Top end with the bags on is 120 and without around 130.

These bikes are not drag bikes but well balanced and fun rides that can do it all well. My bike has never been pushed harder than it was ment to be pushed and the bike has taken all that my 53 years and svelt self can give.

The only thing this bike does not have is lower wind protection. That is what I want in my next bike but I do not want a big ass wing. I like lightweight, upright position and nimble.

I am actually looking towards the 2009-2010 Motoguzzi Norge if, IF I fit as a possible replacement down the road or a used Boxer Motor BMW if I get the desire for a road bike. Just don't want the BMW stigma that comes with owning one! AHhahaa.

I still have the 04 Strom as well, almost 60K and the 00 LC 1500 with only 45K in the stable. I just don't ride much any more, all my buds have kids stuff and everyone is working more and more for less pay to just stay above water and its hard to ride 3 bikes and keep 3 cages all driven.

There is just not much time to ride anymore. Its time to throttle back a tad. Plan on reducing the Strom as well after I sell the Buell. If I sell the Buell.

Whoever buys this bike will not be lied to or swindled and will be told EVERY DETAIL about its history as you mention. They will be told how, when and where its been ridden. I love to brag on these bikes!

Bdrag,

You are a STAND UP guy! I'd really like to meet you some day. I actually just came back up to my study, before hitting the sack, to delete my post above. When I reflected on it I didn't want it to bug you. Can't do that now after your detailed and excellent post above. I've really enjoyed reading of your rides as I'm sure many others have. The three sisters and Arkansas come to mind as particularly interesting and your posts are always humorous, which is cool.

I wish you the very best in whatever you decide and please visit us and keep us posted even if you sell your Uly. I'm with you 100% on Uly's. Very special, fun bikes, that can beat any bikes through the twisties. Take care.

I would have been disapointed if you had deleted it! No reason to. I have always enjoyed the antics and friendship here. If you have followed my posts you see I have not posted much and thats due to the lack of rides to share comments from! AHhahaa. It is what it is. HAHahaaaaaaaa,

I hope we can meet one day. If your in the DFW area sometime, let me know.

I am very impressed Bdrag. You do not come across many who know there bike, any bike, this well anymore. The airbox cover changes are cool and a very clever idea. The oil changes show an idea of what the bike needs and, as you say, fast riding is not a problem with this bike. Mine at least just loves to rip up the highway. Good one on the three bearing wheel as well.

Given the condition, owner and history of this bike I for one would be looking at it if in the market to buy.

On the other hand Bdrag I would take care on selling it. A good Buell is one that has had the care that you have taken over the one you have now. Think on the time and effort you put into this bike and what might be needed if you want another at a later date. And you will and you know it. It is why you are just "thinking" and not done yet.

So you have three bikes? Which set of keys do you pick up first.

Uly_man

I have keys to all three bikes in my pocket at all times. The spares. HAhahaaaa. The short history on my bikes.

2000 LC 1500. Rode 10K a year for 4 years till I sat on the Strom at the dealer and they let me test ride a used one for a few hours. SOLD! I have only put 5000 miles on the LC since. Its a hanger queen now, Sighhhhhh! Then when I got the Uly in the summer of 2009 the Strom had 55K on it. Since the Buell the strom now has 57K, thats not very many miles in 3 years! The Buell has just under 13K and most of that was in the first 18 months of riding it. This past year has only seen a total put on all 3 bikes combined of about 2000 miles. That sucks! We use to ride 10 to 12 K a year. Now we don't ride for shit! Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Thanks I guess? AHhahaaaaa.
No for real, This forum came to me AFTER I purchased the bike. I had looked at the Uly's back in 07 or 08 but the dealer here was so stuck up and didn't know jack about the Buells. Its a 95% HD dealer. 30 % bikes and 65 % clothes and 5% Buell at the time. HAhaha. Really!

After finding this forum and doing some reading and posting I learned of all the improvments that had been made year by year at Buell. WOW! Buell really wanted to make THE BEST product. I felt that from the years of reading and looking and then bought. The 09 had most everything learned from the past bikes applied sept the 3 bearing rear wheel. I was pleased to read that.

So through the folks here I found the vendors who I started to collect my parts from. Little did I know that the mad rush for parts was on and I had to spend feverishly lots sooner than I had intended to. It adds up quik! AHhahaaaa. I have $3500 to $4000 in spares to this point. Maybe more!

The first thing was the 2010 wheel and all its bits to make it a true SWAPOUT WHEEL. Not cheap but less than many other brands new wheels cost. Then the Airbox fettish hit and I went for Black first, then did the Translucent Orange which is killer looking with the small OEM sheild and black fly screen. Tuck the beaver tail on the seat and its a street fighter to the tee sept its a tall one! AHahhaaaaa.

Then the Yellow which I like on road trips for visability and it goes well with my old yellow and black Suzuki rain wear which is still some of the best I have ever used. The only thing I need to do is move the ECM before I flatten it. It does rub a tad.Read about that fix just last night!

I did the spare belt, Keep the tools needed to do the road side change if needed stowed for trip and read stories of falling and busting a leaver and got a pair for the bags while on trips. Learn from others mistakes. keep up on the fasteners and have only lost one and it was from the lower fairing. My dealer actually had those and oil filters in stock. Thats all I have ever bought there sept for the Tall seat which they found for me at an out of state dealer and HD shipped it dealer to dealerat no cost to me. WOW! AHhahaaaa. Thats the one mod I HAD to do. I felt the low seat was way to thin for my self. The tall seat is wonderful! These bikes are really easy to work on and maintain.

Yes you are right about the fact that down the road the want may come around again. Thats why I may sell IF I can get a fair price. I know I could do better breaking it all up and parting it out bit by bit but what a hassle and lots of time and lots of trust involved that I do not have the patients for anymore! AHahhaaaaaaa.

We will see where it goes. I may just load the Buell and Strom up on the trailer and pile ALL the spares for both bikes in the bed of the truck and go dealer shopping. Ya never know.

Here are a few more pics of the bike and spares. Still want some input on what my sale price should be. I am thinkin $7800-$8000 with al the goodies. Notice the pile of spares that go on every trip I take. Levers, Muffler Clamps, Belt, and miss hardware! AHhahaa. Never needed any of it yet. There are enough 190 rear tires to last a person 10,000 miles with the two wheels. On bike tires are 700 miles. 3 spare rears with 1000-1500 miles each. Every time we would head off on a trip I would change a rear because ya DON'T wanna tire issue on a sunday. HAhahaa. Most of my miles have been on trips come to think of it.

Oh yea, the OEM short seat is not in the pics.

Cool story and LOTS of good stuff.

Just for reference, I just paid 4K for a 2008 Uly, owned by an old man, he had all the books and receipts since day one. 13000 miles on it, never down, garaged and looks great.

Mine needed tires- which yours has extras, so thats a plus. You have a LOT of great extra parts for the right guy- I wear the same size as you, and like all that stuff, but its got a limit on value to most people.

I'm looking at a 2009 in Ocala later with 12K on it for 7000 bucks. He's down to 6500 as of now, but he has no spares like you have.

I think you're not far off with the price, if I was closer, I'd be over there!

I paid $7k for my 2009 XT with 9900 miles this summer. I think the asking price is about market fair. NADA and KBB place it higher but I have found the market pricing to be somewhat lower.

I was searching for months and this is a good deal considering all you have done. If you wanted to sell it quicker then breaking it up would be the way to go...

Good Luck!

Thanks guys for the input. $4000 for yours was a steal I think. Climb your happy ass in the pickup and come get it. I will knock off $250 to pay for your gas! HAhahaa.

Afsoc_commando

Yea, I know what ya mean about the books and reality. The bare bike I would let go for less but I do NOT want to hassel with parting it all out. Thats waiting on payment and emails and oh well I changed my mind to I thought I got that one and so on. It will go as a PACKAGE. That way whoever buys it has it all already and can go ride for many miles with the spares and all there for support. Sighhhhhhhhh. HAhhaa.

O.K. ALL,

TO SELL I have decide 100% to SELL the BUELL.

So if anyone knows someone thats intrested please direct them to this thread. Or, do I need to repost it in another area of the forum?

Final and lowest price I will take with all the listed extras is $7500.

My 2004 V Strom 1000 with 58K on the clock is going as well. Silver,I need $2800 for it without the K5 Krausers or $3400 with the Pods. It is due for a 60K service in a few thousand miles but all it really needs is a chain and sprokets and a fresh K & N cleaning. Never been down. Comes with a new 2008 seat and a Gel seat plus the one on the bike which is OEM.

That is a velcro / strap on tail pack made by a company called AXIO. I do not think this style is made anymore. I have one on the Strom and the Buell. They are great and at $100 buck well worth it. I could only find an electric Blue one for the buell so a can of black grill paint and a can of puewter spray paint and some pin striping and a few hours and its matches decent. HAhahaa.

I wanted the Carbon or flat black one but like I said, they went away. The company now has a simular modle but its more rounded verses angular. Comes with a small bungy net, rain fly and has a inner pouch for a cd player, i pod or whatever and one for like sun glasses. It also will double as a back pack if you leave the straps on it. I took those off mine. I think they are still on ebay, new style. Search AXIO tail pack.

Hey All,

I may have BOTH my bikes sold for a fair price to a dealer interested in them as trade ins. We are $500 apart. Te bad part is that my V STrom with 58K is more inviting to them than the Buell?

The only draw back is that I may ride out of the dealer on a 2012 Triumph Tiger 1200 Explorer! YIKES! HAHHAHAAaaaaaa.

At a time when I am riding less and less, that bike may be the last one for many many years. May be my last new bike.

Thoughts?

As a guy who owns a Tiger 955i and who just bought a Uly, my opinion is that I'd be keeping the Buell and making serious moves for spares in the future in case of parts shortages or things being more expensive or hard to get.

I like the Tigger, but its nothing like the Uly, seriously, and mine is pretty nice and was a sweet deal. I bought it in 2007 and its a 2002, so was 5 years old, had 14000 miles on it, and I paid 2500 bucks for it, with bags and everything in good shape and well maintained. I feel WAY better on my Buell so far, doing a 'round town run, going 90 on the interstate, and blasting down the few dirt roads I've had it on.

Its just an initial opinion, but I never felt as balanced or "together" with the bike in the 5 years that I've owned it. The Tigger is still in my stable, but I'd seriously dump it to put another Uly in its place- I have it in Europe, where I shipped it last season, and good service for them there, but I'm sure the Buell would be OK with training that the HD guys have gotten, which you really only need for serious stuff.

I'm only mentioning this because I've had bikes set up just right, I know that you set yours up right for you, and you have a lot of great additions to it, and I would hate to hear you regret selling it.

I'm a multiple bike owner too, so I know what its like. I'd say the VStrom has enough miles on it to be moved on, but the Uly is pretty special, I really like yours, maybe get the Tigger and keep the Uly until you know for sure that you dig it as much. Just a thought...

I really like the new Explorer, but I don't have or know anyone that has had any seat time on one. Test ride it and get back to us!

For $500, that would be worth it to me not to go through the trouble of selling one bike much less two. Just my $ .02.

I test rode the Explorer. I liked it, it didn't seem huge at all. Faster than hell, great engine. But I hate, hate, hated the FBW throttle, it's way too sensitive. Every time I hit a bump in the road my hand would twitch a little bit and the bike would accelerate. I cannot imagine standing on the pegs in the dirt hitting bumps on that thing. I'm sure they'll have it sorted, apparently the new cruiser already has addressed that.

I rode a buddies 2005 or 2006 955,the last year for the guppy shaped tank, and at the time the Strom was my main ride. It made me feel like I was on top of the bike unlike the down in seating of the strom. The bike rode well and was actually slightly quiker than the Strom.

The handling was great. Sounded great as well.

The 1200 Explorer is a larger bike all together than the 1050 which is going away in lue of the 1200 and the 800 is very popular. The 1200 is aimed at the BMW GS group. I don't mind the slightly larger bike and weighing in at 570 lbs gassed up, its only 15 lbs heavier than the Strom. AND ITS SHAFT DRIVE!

The Buell is lighter than both by what 60 lbs maybe. I can't remember what the 12 x weighs.

The Buell is BY FAR the most comfy bike I have owned and can be in the seat all day with it having the TALL seat. Thats one of my concers with the Explorer seeing how I can't test ride one for 500 miles! AHhahaahaaaa.

It does sit just like a GS and its seat is hard but I didn't feel any edges cutting in while I sat on it for 30 minutes oggaling over everything. You sit down in it as well which I actually like.

I already have enough of the basic maintanance parts that should be required for any basic service. I wish someone would buy it because its a GREAT deal at the $7500. Can't belive no one has even showed any interest. So a trade is easy IF I get the 7500.

I hear ya but there is just one thing that keeps nawwing at me and that is the feeling I have had since day one of Buell ownership and that is the LACK OF CONFIDENCE that the Buell will not leave me high and dry on the road someplace.

The bike has been 100% flawless and some of my fears have been vanquished but I still just do not have a confidence factor. Its weird. Hell, a few weeks ago my buddy from Colorado calls on a Tuesday night and says, I will be there Friday on the wing, lets go do Arkansas. I called a local riding buddy with a new to him 04 strom and we talked and I decided to take my strom instead of the Buell. I have not put more than 200 miles on the Strom in over a year. Hell the inspection was out by 5 months just 3 weeks back and the only reason I saw that was I was puttin the tag on. SHIT!

So we did a 900 mile 2 day ride never hiting any interstate or major roads sept for a few mile loop around Paris Texas. The bike ran flawless and I NEVER ONCE thought about a break down. Not once. 58,000 miles of these thoughts and NEVER been stranded or even had a burp. I should just go buy another Strom. AHhahhaaaaa. That damn chain though! AHhahaaa.

Just no reason to think about the Buell like that but I do. It sucks. Its a GREAT RIDE!

Bdrag...have enjoyed your comments over time. I get your fears. Orphan bike. But...is it rational? There are thousands out there that never heard of the Badweatherboys and their CDO (that's OCD with the letters in order) issues...just riding and riding. Look at that report here recently of the bro who rides down to SA. Lost some parts...got em (in SA!)...and keeps on a goin. I bought my 09 partly because of HD coverage. Mostly because I LOVED it! So when the coverage went away I did the spare parts hustle...and all I buy is gas. And some oil. Have not even put the 3 bearing on yet. Why bother. Wait til it dies. Anyway, all that to say...when you go out on your Uly ventures...stay loose about the idea you could have an issue which only changes the adventure...not ruins it. And if we could take this up to 20,000 feet...the miles vs repair issue would be moot if we could see all the thousands of Buellers rolling up miles. I have two independent shops in my county that are Buell trained. Piece of cake. So if you like it...betting you could be a 100k rider on it. You are old enough to have regretted fear sales afterwards. Just saying...trying not to listen to those voices from the pit myself.

WELL ALL,

THEY ARE GONE! Both the Buell and the Strom. Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Huhuuuuuuu Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The bad thing is I am gonna really miss the ole Strom! We have been through HELL and back. Probably why I never felt the zin with the Uly. Just don't know.

Cleanig out the nooks and crannies on the Strom I found a rock I saved from up at Crazyhorse. I found an old square nail from some road in Colorado where we stopped for a jerky and water break under a great canopy of pines. SO many rides and miles. I feel almost bad damnit! AHhahaaa. I bet I forget all about it after the first day of riding the TEX, HAhahaaaa Thats the click name for the Triumph Tiger Explorer.

I sure as hell hope the people on the Triumph boards are as great and nice and helpful and as crotchety as we all have been here. AHhahaa. I am currently on an LC forum which has been a real extended family since 2001. Been to meets all over the country with them folk. Hang on a ford raptor forum and have fallen into extended family there as well. Met a few from here along the way. Never made any gatherings though damnit!

I will post a thread about the deal and bike, new one and old ones. If anyone knows someone looking for a deal on my Buell call European Motorsports in Plano Texas and ask for Elvis. He will hook ya up! They stole it from me. So go get it from them.

Later all. I will still hang my hat here. Can't get rid of me very easy.......
