I have to replace my left foot hanger after a minor accident, but there's a tool I need which I don't have and don't know the name of. Need some guidance please... The luggage rack attaches to both foot hangers using a 3/8 nut, but I have nothing which can fit in the tiny gap between the nut and the swingarm. Those nuts look really tough to get at and remove. What tool do I need? Thanks. | ||

Hmmm that sounds strange I believe I mounted my racks with a the standard tools. Are you approaching it from the correct side? | ||

Either a right angle piece of 1/4" square stock and a 1/4" drive 3/8" socket or a ground off (shortened) 1/4" drive 3/8" socket and ratchet wrench. husky | ||

I've never had an issue with a shallow socket on a regular ratchet drive. Jack up the bike, lowering the swingarm in relation to the mount? | ||

I used a Toyota Corolla. They crushed the whole footpeg assembly (and my pelvis). That made it easy to get out.  | ||

Special too? How about a 3/8" combination wrench? Either the open end or the box end will get it. | ||

Try removing the 3 bolts holding the hanger to the frame first and then see if you can get the socket and wrench in there! Your hanger is probably bent in from your accident. husky | ||

Thanks guys. I've ordered a box wrench which I reckon will do the job. Hanger wasn't bent in, it's just a very narrow gap. No doubt it's the same on the X as the XT. Would make roadside belt replacement a major chore without this tool, although it looks like raising the bike on its muffler would drop the swing arm far enough to give easier access. |
