My son likes to ride with me. He's 8 and has trouble reaching the pegs on my XT so I've been using my wife's Honda Shadow when riding with him. He REALLY wants to ride on my bike (can't blame him, he's got great taste) but I won't do it until he can comfortably keep his feet on the pegs.

I know there are plenty of options for dropping the pegs lower to accomodate taller riders/passengers, but what's available for the real short ones (i.e. kids)?

Strapping 2x4s on his shoes would work fine but that gets to be a hassle. I'd rather get something that stays on the bike.

Thoughts?

In the state of Nebraska it is illegal for a passenger to ride if they can't reach the pegs. I tell the students in my MSF classes to think twice about giving rides to the very young. A wipe out that a grownup sized person walks away from can easily maim or outright kill a young child. Just something to think about. Nobody goes out to wreck when they ride, it just kind of sneaks up on you.

Glider, I absolutely agree with you. Legal or not, I won't let him ride if he can't reach the pegs, even around the neighborhood which is what we're doing now.

I really appreciate the thought provoking points you made; we are very conscious of the risks involved.
