Googled it, searched here for over heat, heat, hot etc with no results. Looked in the manual and found steps to take if it does overheat but thats it.

Would the check engine light come on if it overheats?
Just wanna know as I expect to be caught in some pretty nasty traffic coming up in two weeks.

My bosses harley starts to cut cylinders to help in overheating situations.

I assume the buell would turn the fan on but is it enough?(doubt it) if not when do I know that I need to giver her a break?

Thanks, putting on my flame suit right now...lol

On my BT EVO I would get horrendous pinging.

I would drive down the break down lane at about 10mph to get airflow over the jugs. Figured if I was stopped I would play the dumb a$$ and explain to the police that it is legal in many states for me to do that and didn't want to become a statistic if my motor quit in the middle of traffic.

I have yet to be pulled and the most I get is a cage flashing or occasionally following me.

10mph is slow enough for safety yet stopped the knocking I would get in the DC metro traffic.

The fan will definitely keep it sufficiently cool in 100 degree + temps while you are idling stuck in traffic. YOU will cook, but the bike will be OK.

If the engine gets too hot, the engine light will flash and it will go into "skip spark" mode, which is basically what your boss's Harley does. If that happens and a break in traffic isn't coming up soon, it's probably a good idea to pull over and let the bike cool for a while before continuing.

I ping a lot in heavy traffic which is bad for the long-term if it is a regular occurrence but won't kill you in the short term. I have never gotten hot enough to go into skip-spark, and I live in Houston, TX - notorious for both heat and traffic.

However, the heat YOU will feel from the bike would make you swear it was about to melt away right under you.

I got caught in a traffic jam in SC last spring and got hot enough to have a flashing engine light but no skip spark. Once the jam cleared, took about 5 miles on interstate to stop flashing.

08 Uly with CC. I've never had it go into skip-spark, even last year in NM at 110+ (degrees, not MPH).

With that being said- it's worrisome when the fuel you just put in starts boiling... so I just installed Thermotec heat shielding inside the tank and wrapped the headers.
