I find that my triple tail can be moved quite a bit with the plastic clippy thing off.
I remember it as being tight without a key jammed in it.

It's probably just caked with dirt or something. I tried WD40 in the keyhole but no change.
Anyone have experience with this symptom?

Try squirting, put something under the triple tail to take up the fluid, lots of fluid in both ends. If you need to take the whole thing apart to repair it take care with the underside bolts. That locking fluid on the threads is a pain and it is easy to shear a head off. If they get tight either taking them in or out just take it slow.
