My 08XT does not idle correctly when cold. I have a EBR race ECM that used to let it idle at 1800 rpm until warm. Now, the bike will high idle for a short time and drop down to around 1000 rpm. It wants to stall and I can hear some popping through the intake. I can manually hold the idle at 1800 rpm until warm. It idles fine when warm and runs fine.

I plan to take the IAC apart and clean. If that does not do the trick, any other suggestions?

Yes...

using the throttle, gently fully open wide the throttle body butterfly and swab the ring of grime off of the body throat. If your bike has an emissions canister for the Gas tank vent, clean the opening in the throat for the canister vacuum. These need to be done frequently, like maybe every other oil change if you live in a dusty area.

This stuff passes right through the OEM air cleaners. I also put a small K&N filter onto the canister air intake port.

Doing this cured my 08XT from the same symptoms you have described.

Mine does the same thing. If I dont hold the throttle it would have to restart the bike5-7 times before it would ever run on its own.

Is yours not a 06 bike?

I bought a 2008xt as well. Swapped over the exhaust and now have three bags. She is blue instead of black also. Then sold the 06 model for what I paid for it. It would start right up no issue ever. The 2008 does like Nobuell states. Gonna clean it out this weekend and see if that helps.

I will check the throttle body when I take it apart.

Husky - Assume you are describing the California only vent canister. If so, mine does not have one.

Thanks

Well I cleaned the IAC out and cleaned the throttle body. I checked the iac actuator and it seems to operate fine. Reassemble and it does the same thing. When cold, it idles at 1800 rpm for about 1 min. then drops back to the hot idle speed, tries to stall and pops through the intake a little. I can manually hold the throttle at 1800 rpm till warm and then it will idle like normal. I did notice that when riding the bike still slightly cold, I can hear slight popping out of the exhaust. Once hot, idles and runs fine

Any ideas?
