It has, no doubt, been asked and answered before but which Memphis Shades lower wind deflector mounting kit works with the 08+ XB12X? I have seen the Honda VTX mentioned but not with certainty. I had these on my 08 and they made a very big difference.

No personal experience, but a quick search yielded this:

Looks like clear lowers (black, smoked, and others available) MEP5810 and mounting kit MEM9890, for a Honda VTX...

Or just get the mounting kit and make the lowers out of lexan.

I am considering installing some MS Lowers on my 08 XT. Can someone please take measurements of the height and width of the plastics so I can sort of visualize how big these would look on the bike? I realize our bikes are kind of funny looking anyway but I don't want the lowers to look like elephant ears. Thanks!

And another view... of course, the DL's homely mug might be overpowering the Uly's, shades and all:

With the standard install, I found the brake side Memphis Shade bracket would snag the clutch cable. I mounted the brackets lower on the forks and drilled new mounting holes in the shades to remedy this (hence the extra holes in my shades).

Details here:

Thanks to both of you guys. Do they really work to reduce helmet buffeting and are they worth the money?

I can only speak for myself but they reduced a large amount of wind noise and the blast coming from below. The down side is they do block the Key and make it difficult to use from the seat. I just got into the habit of turning the key on and off before I mounted, or after I dismounted, the bike.

This is one of the best mods you can do to your Uly, it really reduces wind noise coming from the bottom of your helmet.

What Buellhusker and Rfp52 said.

Wind noise is reduced so you can enjoy that cacophonous motor.

No more arctic blast up and under your chin in the cold weather, and no more buffeting or helmet suction (at highway speed, it felt like someone trying to pull my helmet off).

Go for the shades -- I doubt you will regret it.

lowers

A little late but these are the ones I made out of Lexan, same thickness as the MS ones. With the MS on there was still turbulence and wind coming up in front of the tank, I guess they are about 4 inches longer than stock.

Smokey, did you just use the hardware?

Yes, I tried the stock MS lowers but they didn't quite cut it. A guy at the local window shop just gave me a couple pieces of scrap Lexan so they were cheap to experiment with.

Thanks for all or your replies! I think I may give them a try but might have to put them on my Christmas list...

A lot of the buffeting comes up from between the bars and the front of the airbox.
Someone here found out by accident that some little zipper bags he hung from the bars stopped the buffeting for him.

Personally, I usually remove my windscreen on a long trip with good weather.
