Looking at the two last night and it looked like a straight forward swap. Just want to make sure that the computer will be happy. The can from the 06 was installed with no tune and and runs great with it. No check engine light. It was sent off to a guy with the last name franklin. Cant think of his first name for nothing. Thanks guys.

They fit the same, should be good to go. Best to have a new front clamp for both bikes. They have been known to fail after one use.

If you think it runs great without a tune, you have never had a tune.

But yes, for all years the mufflers on domestic models are interchangeable.

Forgive my 'newbiness'... but when everyone recommends a new front clamp; are they referring to the header-to-can clamp or the band that mounts the can to the bike?

The band that goes around the muffler. It is a one time use part, some have had luck reusing it, some have not. If it breaks, it can damage the header and the studs that hold it into the motor.

Ok I have removed both cans. The one from the 08 model uly has the valve in the exhaust and the bike has the cable that runs to it.

The 06 can does not have the valve and the 06 does not have the cable to hook up to it.

Can I just put the can without the valve on the 08 and leave the cable not hooked up?

On the 06 can i put the can with the valve and leave it unhooked?

That would be a niner can. The XB9's did not have a valve and were used a lot in the hotrodding of cans because of that.

Not a big deal, you can hook up the valve on the '06 with the stuff from the '08 and probably have to turn it back on with ecm spy. On the '08 it will work fine, but you will have to turn off the ign light with ecm spy, as must have been done on the '06.

Or you can put the '08 can on the '06 and just wire the valve open.

Most of the people that mod the stock pipe remove the valve.

I'm not sure why your 06 does not have the wiring, previous owner probably thought it was a great idea to make your life miserable if you ever went back to stock.

You will get a check engine light if the valve actuator on the airbox is not hooked up, but the actuator doesn't need to be connected to the muffler. If you leave the actuator on the light wont illuminate.

Ok, put the 08 can on the 06 and wire the valve open with a spring or something.

Put the xb9 can on the 08. Can I ride it without have to flash the computer? I dont have the ecm spy yet.

As a matter of fact I havent even ridin the 08 yet and I really want to ride it once I get done in the next few hours. Thanks etennuly

I've re-used a single clamp several times....

I'm guessing my luck has to do with not over tightening and keeping the worm drive clean.

The wiring for the cable is there and hooked up. Just the cable that runs from it to the can is not. So I'm good.

As have I.

I have also reused the Torca clamp (at least a dozen times) that secures the collector to the muffler.
When installing a Buell muffler:
Always observe the torque specs and sequence.
Always make sure the collector and muffler are nested before torquing the band clamps and finally the Torca clamp.

And, as always; your mileage or experience may vary when reusing of any of the afore mentioned parts.

I have re-used my front band clamp also. I don't recommend it to others because after I re-use it I check it much more often. I have read many times where the front band clamp had come loose or lost and that led to breaking the studs off the heads or cracking the header pipe.

Got the exhaust done on both bikes. Sucked having to do everything twice. I read about all the problems with the front clamp so I just left the front clamp on the cans and removed the bolt through the frame that the clamp bolts to. Worked great and I didnt have to worry about messing anything up.
