Flat rear tire giving me an excuse to upgrade from original Dunlops. Unfortunately front Pirelli Scorpion Trail is back ordered until November. Conti Trail Attacks are available. I do hit the occaisional gravel road so I would like say 10% offroad capability. Any feedback on the Conti's?

Both revzilla and motorcycle superstore have the front Scorpion Trail in stock.

The Conti's are very good tires, but no better than the Pirelli's, yet they cost a good bit more.

The Scorpion Trails work great for my 75% paved road 25% dirt road use.

GoodYear F1s. ; )

The Conti Road Attacks are supposed to be a high mile tire, I got about 3500 on them. I'd hate to see what the trail would do. I'll not buy a Conti for mileage ever again. I've been very happy with my Michelin PR2s....about 9000 miles so far, with many many more to go. However, this does not get you off road very well, and that's my only complaint.

I also like the PR2s. Only had them on for about 2000 miles but they're wearing VERY well after a 1600 mile road trip of state highway/interstate. Every other tire I've used would have shown some flattening in the middle after a trip like that. Superb confidence in the rain, excellent dry grip too although I don't push any tires very hard (lack of skill)

The only tires I liked as well as these PR2s were the Stradas. Well, I LOVE Scorpion Syncs but they don't last long enough. Tried Angel STs when Pirelli stopped making the Stradas, hated them - can't explain it just never felt confident with them.

Sorry, never tried any Contis.

FWIW I got PR2s a couple months ago from Competition Accessories for $262 shipped.

I've been a loyal owner of my Dunlop D616's because I always got 10,000 miles out of my rear tire and 20,000 out of the front but this last tire change I ended up switching to the Dunlop RoadSmarts because the dealer had them in stock and they were only a few dollars more. So far I really like the handling but haven't tested them in the rain yet. We'll see if they are as good as the D616's.

The one thing I discovered about the RoadSmarts is that you have to keep the pressure at 42/rear and 38/Front. If you have the pressure any lower, the tires will wear out prematurely. The set I ran on my XT lasted a long time, and the traction was good on both dry and wet pavement.
It's funny how a tire can give such good life and performance for one rider, and be so poor for another rider. I've had tires on my bikes that I loved, and that lasted a long time, and somebody else got short life and poor handling from. Conversely, I've tried tires that I hated, and didn't last for s**t, that others would swear by. A lot depends on the rider. Then again, sometimes a certain tire works well with one bike, but not another.
For example, I put a set of Avon Azaros on my M2, and liked them a lot; when I put a set on my '06 Ulysses, I hated them.
With tires, a lot depends on the rider, the bike and the roads ridden on.

I have about 6000 on my rear scorp trail, and may get near 1000 more, pretty impressest! Next tire will be a raven 009, because I have one on hand . $100 , we will see. I have a lot of slab to ride next month, just though I'd give the 009 a try.

Crusty- I think a big part of tire life is not just the rider and his riding habits, but the rider's location.

I remember there was a thread on ADVrider when the Uly first came out by Eyore (sp?). He lived in Arkansas and burned through rear Dunlop D616's at the rate of about one every 2000 miles IIRC. He tossed it up to the VERY abrasive pavement in the area where he typically rode. I imagine type of pavement is a big factor for many other riders as well.

My first set of Scorpion Trails lasted 12,000 miles. The second set was in worse shape after just 7500.

My riding style didn't change at all, but weight and pavement changed drastically. I was still shocked to see that big of a mileage difference.

The second set was fully loaded (some 2-up, some solo but LOADED) touring, and it covered lots of rough pavement through Canada.

My scorpion trails rear lasted about 8k, the front is still going strong with about 15k. To be fair, the rear tire was on when I rode to Alaska last summer from Colorado and the bike was fully loaded the whole time.
