So I had not used the 2010 bike for 6 months but now it is back on the road.

I have fitted a custom made after market can and it sounded and worked great. After putting the bike back on the road it did not have the same can sound as before. This sound is hard to quantify but it sounded like some sort of mechanical noise which could be from the exhaust valves. Since I have decided to just ride the bike the way it should be this "sound" seems to have gone and it is now the way it was before. I tend to listen to what my bikes do.

Also the higher vibs I was getting, after putting the bike back on the road, in the 1500 to 2500rpm range is now less and more like the way it was before. It still has vibs but not the heavy "lumpy" vibes and more like the way I remember them.

While I do not like to make assumptions about anything I think I may have had a "sticky" exhaust seal.

Any thoughts?

Your aftermarket can is probably falling apart inside. I have been messing around with my custom muffler for a while now and I can tell you for certain minor changes inside the can will do weird things to the harmonics of the bike. I am pretty close right now to an almost perfect balance of torque, HP, sound and vibration. This mind you is after about 12 different mods to my stock can. I am very close right now and extrememly pleased with the end result.

Thank you for the info.

This is a UK built Stealth can, and I have had one before, is very good quality and as is good as a Remus of which I have had on a 06 Uly before as well. I will see how things work out.

I have kept my 2008 bike quiet. It is the first fully muffled bike I have had since 1993!

Man that engine makes a racket. All sort of klunky rumbly sounds.
Took me forever to get past it and just ride it.

One "gotcha!" I would suggest:
pop off the primary inspection cover (two bolt one) and see how loose the chain is.

I generally run mine on the floppy side of the spec. Once, I allowed my X1 to get toooo floppy (Out of spec!)
Chain flopped up against inside of primary cover. There are limits to how floppy to let it get.

"Man that engine makes a racket. All sort of klunky rumbly sounds." Yes it is a bit of a shock after a modern 4 engine. I think the Wright brothers may have used a "version" of it in the "Flyer".

I had a ultimate air box on my 06 bike and you could hear all the top end engine noise even at 60 mph with ear plugs. Not very nice and I was going to take it off but the bike was stolen.

"There are limits to how floppy to let it get." Its age, drinking and smoking with me?
