I have been tired of the stock Showa for some time now. It never seemed to be up to par with the rest of the bike. It was barely ok with just myself but way over matched 2 up with luggage, and I weigh 180 and my wife 120. When I added JasonB's lowering collar, I was super happy with the ride height but I lost a lot of preload which made 2 up riding worse.
Well when my rear bearings went again(another story, 2010 wheel, 2K miles) I decided to take the shock off and send it out to Traxxion Dynamics in Georgia. I spoke with them on the phone and we agreed to to a total rebuild and revalve, new spring with 2 up riding in mind, and have the shock shortened by .5". It took them a bit longer than expected (about 14 business days) but since they ran long, they sent it 2nd day air so I would have it for this weekend. Great customer service.
When I received it today I measured the eye to eye at 14.25" which I hope is a .5" shorter : ).
Install went smooth, except for that damn comfort kit fan shroud!
Took it for a ride and immediately noticed how much firmer the ride was but not harsh. I had almost no preload on the shock to get the sag right. I definitely had the shock set up towards 2 up riding.
Took it for a short ride to break in my new Scorpion Trail tires too, and the rough pavement was slightly harsher but smoother at the same time. It felt very similar to my Penske on my X1.
Flogged it for an hour or so and kept feeling more confident. It may be the best money I have spent on my Uly so far.
The cost was about $350 with the spring and all labor. Pretty fair in my opinion considering my Penske was $850.

Give Traxxion Dynamics a call if you want to take your Uly to the next level.www.traxxion.com

Thanks for the review and info. My shock needs some help and think that this is the route that I'll go.

Give us an update after you've gotten some more miles on it please.

+1 Appreciate the write up. I'm thinking I should have mine gone through while I have the engine out.

For the Canucks on the forum try John Sharrard at Accelerated Technologies in Lakefield Ontario. Excellent.
