I work with 5 guys that all have harleys. As you know the harley calls for 20w50 oil. Someone dealership they know said to use straight 70wt engine oil. So thats what they use and have not had any issues with it thus far. They swear by it quieting down the engine.

They are trying to get me to use it but figured I'd prod you guys and see what you think.

The oil is Motor Factory 70wt

No need to search even, just look in your owners manual or a service manual for the oil by temp chart.

60W is called for when the temps won't drop below 70F. I'll run it in the heat of summer. Sure don't when it cools off!

Why not just use what the manual recommends? To answer your question simply, the thickest oil I use is 20w50 in the summer, and 10w40 in the winter.
Amsoil runs quieter for me than Mobil 1.

I've got a few, don't look at them anymore. Just looked at the one linked to the BB&D thread and sure enough it does list 50 and 60wt if it's hot (50wt above 60 degrees, and 60wt above 80).
With that information in mind, I'd still steer clear of 70wt unless you're, well, only riding in triple digit temperatures.

Fair enough Buelldual. I dont seem to have alot of luck using the search function. Maybe I just need to play with it more. Although searching just oil did in fact bring back a ton of results.

If I had a manual I would be glad to use it. Its on my list.

I'll admit, it was just easier to ask you. lol

Thanks guys.

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GAN3H6/ref=pd _lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top- stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000CQ4DEQ&pf_rd_m=AT VPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0E0CRB996CHYCPKGSPXH

Product Features
Designed for high performance race engines
Helps increase horsepower through advance friction modifier balanced with reduced detergent levels
Contains increased amounts of zinc for extra engine protection

But to answer you question 60wt. as the '06 owner's manual states on pg.80.

"Synthetic 20W50 NOT STREET LEGAL" Total BULL S. Its not needed either. Its not even needed on fast road bikes like GSXRs and R1s. Or are flash plugs on this bike. What is needed on this bike is a working engine control system, lots of oil changes and the best fuel you can get.

Everyone today thinks they know better that those who design say a bike?

Way to much rubbish talked about this bike by people who know nothing about it or anything else about bikes. Thats ok. Stick any oil you like in your bike. Its your ass.
