I have always been a bit "easy" on my Ulys but more so with the 2010 bike. Today I got bored with that. 7k plus revs in all gears, no "warm up" and "maximum" ride attitude. It has to "put up or die". I no longer have the time to work its problems.

Interesting. Peter Egan of Cycle World just wrote this about his Uly:

My Buell Ulysses has an element of this (character), as well, thanks to its Harley DNA. You put up with a lumpy idle and a noisy cooling fan for the rear cylinder, and in return you get a highly charismatic bike with remarkable torque, a hard-hitting exhaust note and a chassis of great technical sophistication. It’s not for everybody, but the fine balance of large virtue and small vice is just right for me.

See the current Cycle World article "A Question of Character". Peter articulated exactly why I ride a Uly.

If you have been babying it you have had it all wrong from the beginning. You got it, use it. Wring it's neck on occasions. The harder you run it, the harder it will run. At least with the '06, running it easy all of the time will have it running like it is anemic.

"If you have been babying it you have had it all wrong from the beginning." I guess I have a bit ET. At the moment the engine still feels a little on the tight side. Or at least the same as the 06 bike before it got to 4k miles.
