Guys - whomever has a parts manual for an 06 Uly can you look up the part number for a "rebound adjuster assembly" inside of the fork? While doing the seals on my 06 Uly tonight it snapped, not sure how - but it did. Below is the diagram from the service manual for the part I need. Your input is much appreciated. Also - is there anywhere online I can order this part?  Thanks in advance, Jeff | ||

From the 06 parts book: J8139.1AK Damper Assy includes rebound adjuster assy, damper locknut, damper assy. | ||

post pictures of where it broke. i have a bent fork from an XB_S that i was gonna gut and replace the rebound rod assy. on my XB9 (cuz i boogered up the top adjuster re-building them). i need the top, so i'll send off the bottom of the rod unless it's all one piece. or you can give me some time to swap them and i'll send you the boogered one. it's just cosmetic ... or if you need it ASAP, i can lend you this one provided you replace it. | ||

Good Grief! I just googled the part number and that assembly is $70-$90...oh the cost of mistakes! | ||

I always giggle when I see people grieving over the cost of Buell parts. Screw up working on a BMW. Then you will know pain. Well, that sucks man. But hey, even with the cost of the part, I bet you still spent less than taking it to a shop plus you have the experience of doing it now. At least it is an easy fix. | ||

That part number is a Uly specific part number, I think the Lightning version is shorter. I also have spare lightning forks that I can cannibalize, but I doubt they would do you any good. | ||

Excuse me for cutting in. I think some of the definitions in the 06 manual are incorrect. my 08 manual calls that broken part a Push Rod, part # J8103.3AK, and it is not part of the damper rod assembly. Please check your manual again to make sure you got the correct part number. hope this helps... husky }} | ||

My '07 parts book shows the same numbers as Paul56. | ||

Husky, the 2008 models use different forks, and have different part numbers and assemblies. 06 and 07 use the same forks, with 07 having different springs and oil level. | ||

Buewolf, I can't argue at all on your BMW comment. I am more frustrated that the slip of the tool and my hand is going to cost me $80+. Live and learn right? But you are right it could be much worse, and I got educated. Froggy/rdkingryder - thank you for clarifying that part number for me. I was worried I may have ordered the wrong thing. | ||

Eulysses, although I think it could be "welded" (probably some type of liquid aluminum or bronze weld epoxy) it is something that I would rather be perfect. Suspension failure could equal erratic behavior which could equal a crash...I am guilty of home engineering plenty of things and I have saved money over the years doing so, but this is one thing I won't do, even though the thought has crossed my mind! Hah, (Not Really). I broke that same exact spot the first time I did my forks. I had to order the whole assembly at about the $90.00 mark. They ordered a standard XB piece and it had to be returned for a Uly one, there is a difference. The Standard ones of the same year are blue tipped and much shorter. If it would have been any other piece of that assembly I have it brand new in a box. | ||

yeah - I am already down a week of riding and the part is still ~5 days out. I will be in the Black Hills of South Dakota all next week without the Uly - BUMMER. |
