I like the Dunlop D616 but I don't see them in the current Dunlop tire catalog.

Have they been discontinued?

Mark,

THANK YOU!

I must have missed them because I was looking at off road and sport touring categories.

That's a big relief.

I've been seeing sportbikes running them lately, and everyone I've talked to with them has unanimously agreed that they are crap once they get a little worn. Hopefully Dunlop runs out of stock soon and nobody else will have to suffer.

It may be that your experience with the tire does not reflect everyone else's.

The only complaint that I had about the D616 was that I could not get an immediate replacement when I put a gaping hole through the middle of my last one.

Mountain roads, a trackday or two, some unpaved mountain roads. No issues for me.

D616 fan myself. Very good all-around tire in my opinion with a nice, thick carcass to boot. We do not have curvy very roads here, so maybe I just don't realize that the tires don't work. I haven't experience the issues a lot of people report. My only complaint is that the center wears quickly due to the lack of curves here. Needs a dual compound.

I have seen them on sportbikes lately as well which was surprising to me and is often a conversation starter. Contrary to Froggy's experience, guys around here seem to like them. The only complaints I've heard are that it takes some effort to warm them up and a couple of BWM riders said they experienced some wandering on rain-grooved roads.

Sorry guys, but I couldn't resist. There is a constant in this universe and that's the fact that Ratbuell and Froggy are at the extreme opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to discussing the attributes of the D616 and I couldn't help myself, I had to throw the spark! It was in the name of science and entertainment!

That's fine...

I'm sure Frank is tired of hearing this, but I wish there were Killboy photos from Buelltoberfest on the Dragon, when Frank, on his 1125, waved me (on my D616-shod, fully loaded pack-mule, er, Uly) past him after a few turns.

Just remember, the 616 tread pattern is based on a race rain tire pattern Dunlop uses. I do wish they'd do a dual-compound version, so I could enjoy them longer. I've had mine down the BRP, the Dragon, around the UP to a Homecoming, to a WVBR, up and down the Cherohola a couple times, down to Florida and Daytona a number of times...and on lots of gravel, some hiking trails, and in places I hesitate to take my Jeep. I've only had one failure, returning from a Buelltoberfest. I miscalculated "I've got enough tread left", and ran out (read: big hole) in southern Virginia on my way home to Maryland.

I like 'em.

They handle fine for me, on my Uly. I probably wouldn't put them on the CR...but the Uly does great on them. I can go anywhere on 'em.

And, they're cheap. Like me : )
