2006 Ulysses, EBR ECM, Drummer...

Idle set to about 1150 as per EBR. I think that's too high, but would that cause the trouble stated below?

I can't understand why when I adjust my idle at full operating temps, it always makes the rpm's hang at about 2K afterwards. It's getting really annoying. It's happened before, but only when I adjusted it while cold. It then went away after riding at a steady rpm for about 4-5 miles.

Mine does the same thing. Turn it down to 1000 rpm, it should be fine.

I liked 950 on my modified stock ecm. EBR said that was way too low. Not so sure now. I'll try 1050 next.

1050 is spec.

Oil pump.

It only turns as fast as the engine. When it turns slow....your oil pressure drops. Yes, you get the "barump-arump-rump" idle cadence...but I'd rather have lifters that aren't going flat, and rings and bearings with plenty of oil on them.

ALWAYS adjust your idle HOT.

And yes, an idle set too high will cause it to hang on decel / clutch pull.

There seems to be a fine line to get the idle right to stop that 2000rpm, which is a pain I know, hang thing but it is not a problem or fault with the bike. I used to set my 06 bike to highest idle I could get that would not make it hang a 2000rpm. Which was about 1100rpm if I recall right but just a few rpm over would make it hang sometimes. It took a bit of practice but I always had a good idle and made the bike a better ride as well.

As Ratbull said you want to keep that oil moving on these hot bikes. I would do a TPS reset first as well.

So I got the hanging idle to stop. I set the idle to about 1050 or so. The new problem I get is kind of strange... When I start it in the morning it fires, idles for about 10 seconds and then stalls. When I fire it up again, it idles no problem. Morning temps around 60 F. After work, when I start it ,75 F, it fires, idles for 10 seconds then quits. I then start it again and it will idle, but the rpms are up and down. not steady at all. WTF? After it is warmed up, it idles fine.

Have you tried cleaning your idle air control valve.

When's the last time you reset your TPS?

(an 06 has no IAC valve...it's a manual cable adjustment against the butterfly)

"Have you tried cleaning your idle air control valve."

It's a 2006, doesn't have one.

Did anyone here mention that 2006 bikes didn't have and idle control servo yet?

The TPS has been reset several times. All I can guess is that the EBR ECM doesn't like ECMSpy and has been corrupted. If it hasn't, I really don't see any benefit to having it. Very frustrating.

Your cold start enrichment might need a little tweaking, I'm not exactly sure what is going on with your bike, something is a little out of whack, maybe an intake leak?

Did you lubricate/ inspect your throttle cables?

And most importantly, did you do your TPS resets with the engine hot?

Did it cold. EBR said the TPS reset could be done cold. The idle needs to be set when the bike is hot.

I hope I have found the answer here:

I'll try it in the morning.

Without messing with different-computer resets and all that...just get the engine hot (10-20 minute ride), and then do the reset.

I'm willing to bet that'll do the trick.

I did the reset yesterday while hot. I also set the idle then too. I'll take it out today and see what happens.

Thanks for all of the advice guys.
