Dodged a bullet this time. Last Saturday I noticed the Uly seemed to be leaning much more than before on the stand. At first I thought maybe it was the brand new Bridgstones I had put on Friday but that didn't make sense that the profile from the flat and worn Ravens would be that different. Stuck my finger against the joint of the mounting plate and the engine case and and felt LOTS of movement when I rocked the bike. Put a wrench to the rear bolt and sure enough it was loose. Tried to do the same to the front bolt but Hello there wasn't a bolt there!

Put the bike up on the Pit Bull and found that the plate had rotated inward enough that the side stand was farther forward when deployed causing the increased lean. Well I had nothing to do anyway Sunday except break in my new tires on a nice mountain ride...

Luckily (I guess) last year my landlord backed his trailer into my bike which pushed it forward and snapped the stand at the clevis. I already had a spare leg on hand so he bought me another and a new bunch of replacement parts:

I consider myself lucky that the broken bolt was relatively easy to remove. I used a very high quality bit and my corded drill to bore a hole through the center almost the full length of the piece, tapped in an extractor while it was still warm and it backed right out.

Here's the little bastard:

Here you can see where the plate rotated until it contacted the case with its edge:

Cleaned out the threads and red Loctited it all back together:

Almost glad it happened, I've been meaning to address the stand for a long time. After it got knocked over even with the new leg the stand was a little wobbly. That's one tough pivot pin and I think it warped the hole in the plate, and the S-plate had been twisted also so I know it wasn't quite right. I'll be checking on this from now on whenever I pull the muffler.

You didn't have the updated stand until now?

Recall completed 07/2006. The extra leg I installed when it was knocked over was the fixit kit Buell was supplying Spring '06 when the stands were recognized as being faulty, I had ordered a spare pivot bolt and leg prior to my trip to the Targhee NF and received the Service Kit instead with the pivot pin and revised leg. Kept an eye on the bolt until the recall notice arrived. The new one I just put on is actually my fourth sidestand.

Jones'n for the Rock Store and Santa Monicas... Father's Day coming up though!

You will be in rare company there, as most visits, my Uly is the only Buell on the lot.
