3 words: Blue. Ridge. Parkway. And if you're in the mood to hang with another Bueller (and another orange 06), mapquest your way to Cascade, Maryland and we'll go have some fun. I'm off weekends and happy to go tear up some of the roads around here (and there's cold beer in the fridge for post-ride)!

If you've ridden the southern end of the BRP, you've already ridden the best part. The north end (Skyline Drive) is excellent, and the southern end (Smokey Mountains) is excellent, but the majority of the middle is just a peaceful scenic road to get from one awesome end to the other. Way better than the interstate, but not as excellent as the ends. All that being said, you're staying immediately next to Skyline Drive. You have to pay a fee to get into the park, but that's a killer day trip. Looks to be about 200 miles to go south to Wanesboro, then take Skyline Drive all the way north to Front Royal, and then back to your lodging. I think the speed limit is low (35?) and aggressively patrolled, but it's worth it for the scenery. |

Yes, Skyline has a low limit with high patrol ratios. But..still gorgeous. The invite to MD still stands. I have tons of room, but not a lot of extra furniture...although I could crash on the sofa if my guests wanted the bed. Just let me know |

Thanks folks, have now moved on to phase 2 of our trip.Visiting the wifes sister and husband in VA beach.Sunday we got on Skyline at route 33,went north to the end and returned. Was able to ride around 50mph with no issues.Saw a lightning of some sort going in the opposite direction.Did around 200 miles.Tuesday we got on at the same place and went south.Finished Skyline and was relieved at the speed limit increase when changing to BRP.Had a wonderful lunch at Otter Peaks Lodge, then got off at route 43 and slabbed back north to home base.Wednesday had us trapped in the room due to weather.Thursday, decided to move on to phase 2.To be continued..... |
