I have an 06 XB12X with a Race ECM and Buell Race Exhaust that was installed in 2007. The guy I baught the bike from a few years ago gave me all the paperwork where the dealership installed it. Does anyone know if this ECM has the same program as the one EBR sells? If not, can I send this one or the factory one, I have both, to get reprogrammed for a cheaper price than a new one from EBR?

The bike just does not run smooth when it is cold. It actually spits and spudders a little until it warms up. Thought that the ECM may have something to do with it. It clears up after about 5 minutes of riding. Thought it could be something to do with the cold mapping? Don't know just a thought.

The Race ECM you have is whats called the P&A (parts and accessories) Race ECM. It was available over the counter at Buell dealers, and is not the same as the Race ECM that EBR sells. The ECM you have was programmed for the P&A Race Exhaust that you have, there wouldn't be much to gain by getting an EBR unit.

Thanks, any thoughts on what would make it spit and spudder while it is cold?

If the bike runs right after warming up, with no flat spots, then I would say you are on a winer and just ride the bike.

"Thanks, any thoughts on what would make it spit and spudder while it is cold?" They do as long as its not VERY bad its ok.

Air cooled lumpy old engine design with a crude/basic EFI control system.

Yep it is the cold start enrichment (choke). There are things you can do to the ECM and improve it a bit, but you are best off just letting the bike sit for another minute to warm up.

And seeing your other thread regarding the rubbed wire, I would repair that before touching the ECM. The ECM only does what it is told, and a damaged wire can give false information to the ECM.

Thanks guy, I'm on American Sport Bike now ordering a new head heat sensor and a manual so I can fix more stuff on my own. It is a shame that I have to order a $20 special socket just to change this one part.

You don't need to order a new part, you can get a cheapo socket and grind a slot in it to feed the wire. It isn't a Buell specific tool either, but usually you can get a box wrench on the sensor instead.
