Hi, MY bearing just went out at 10,500 miles. I have been looking for the bearing replacement thread but there are so many bearing threads I cannot find it. Can someone point me in the correct direction? I have the manual, and I guess I am wondering of I need the special tools and where to find the fasteners for the sprocket and brake rotor.

Thanks, sorry since I know this is someplace.

There are many but here are a couple of mine if you are interested in the 2010 wheel upgrade. Installing new bearings in your stock 08 wheel would be similar except you only have 1 small bearing on each side and no external dust seals.

Please DO NOT just hammer the bearings in.

Yeah, and if you're just replacing bearings in the same wheel then you don't have to mess with the sprocket and rotor. That part about using heat is definitely a good idea, when the bearings go in easily you can get the best fit against the spacer without putting undue stress on the new bearings.

Thanks, I may just go with the 2010 wheel, although the rotor side is what failed on mine.

When mine failed it was a double. Let me have your old wheel? =]

You can reuse the pulley and rotor on the 2010 wheel, but I'd strongly suggest getting new fasteners. Al only charges $20 to press in the new bearings on the 2010 wheel.

Ourdee makes a good point. If you buy the wheel from American Sport Bike, just have Al press the bearings in. That would be a good deal at twice that price. I probably have that much into my homemade tool, just for the parts. I just enjoy doing this kind of thing or I would have hired it done. There is a proper way to install these bearings and Al has the knowledge and experience. Thanks.

Well when I got it apart the wheel looks damaged where the bearings seat, so for piece of mind I will just go with the 2010 wheel. It was at the end of a 2,800 mile trip, so I am glad it was not at the beginning. I thought I was home free but I got to meet some nice people where I got stuck so everything works out. Thanks for the help everybody.

While I am not sure about the need for a 2010 wheel I would say "buy it" if your own one is damaged. You USA guys are lucky to have the option. Here in the UK they are close to twice the price, even if you could find one, and the stronger Uly one is a rare as the "self filling" Beer glass. Even a used 06 wheel is $200 if your are lucky.
