Anyone running a Laminar Lip on their stock Uly screen? How do you like it? Would you buy it again?

Had it, on the stock screen is a bit to low for my taste, lent it to a friend for his tall wind screen and he said it was perfect, but he went up to 190km/h and the presure at that speed was to much and it flew away.

I've used a LL on my '06 Uly for many years. At 5-8 it is perfect for me. I did bolt it on, however (they offer a free bolt kit).

Thanks for the responses. I'm riding out to Colorado to see my brother in May and was thinking about maybe getting a little more wind protection. I started out the season with a new helmet, an Arai XD3, which I love; but it catches a bit more wind. I know people love their Palmer brackets, but I don't care for the look. I'm 5' 10", just a bit taller than you Dr. Greg, not sure how much that would affect things.

I have the laminar lip on my 06 Uly standard screen. It has been a great product for 30,000 miles. Great wind protection and a fabulous investment. You need to play with the best location to fit your height and riding style. I tried two different spots and locked on the second. You get extra Dupont connectors with lip to adjust as you need too. The dupont connectors will wear out after two to three years of ultraviolet exposure so keep the extras somewhere you will remember.

I run a LL with the stock screen on my '08 XB12X. Works great! At one point, I had a tall screen on and tried the LL on that...didn't work as well.

Good luck!

I used a LL on the stock screen on my '08 Uly and I loved it! I'm 6'2" and I set it on the highest setting and it was perfect for me.

Personally, I found it much better than a tall ZeroGravity screen that I fitted at one point.

I run the Lip on my stock X screen in colder weather, works great. Tried it on the Tall screen, didn't like it, or the Tall itself either for that matter. I even tried it for awhile mounted directly to the flyscreen without the shield, it worked great there too. Very similar effect to riding behind the Cafe fairing on my 100S.

The Scotch DualLocks stay put but as mentioned get brittle after time, in any case I never was good at separating them w/o damage. One of these days I'd like to get a second Lip in Smoke so I can run it in the summer on the flyscreen and screw mount the clear Lip to the stock shield for winter.

Pic from Laminar LLC, I run mine about 1/4" lower it appears:

Pic with my Lip on the flyscreen:

Very worthwhile investment IMO, if I ever want more protection I'll get a different bike, or build a frame mount fairing...

I might add I'm a short waisted 5'11'' and I don't like wind blast in the face port of my helmet which is what the Tall shield did for me. Also, it's amazing how much wind gets blocked with a tank bag, the Buell Deluxe in my case. My extra $.02.

More BadWeb "What can I do today" inspiration from this thread, went ahead and hard fixed my Lip to the shield so I could R&R when I want. Dropped it 1.25" from its previous location, it's as close to perfect for me as possible.

Shoulda done this long ago. The new height and spacers seem to allow the Lip to perform as designed, better than where I had it before. Put a couple of stick-on bumpers where the lower screws will contact the flyscreen under pressure, eliminates the centrally mounted one which stuck out like a sore thumb.

Nice job XB. Been thinking about getting one myself. I get a lot of disturbance when following another vehicle, especially pickups. Enough so my arms get battered and gives me a slight wobbling in the steering. I've got to drop back, or shift lanes.

Xbimmer,

That's almost exactly the same position I have mine-just installed it on Saturday. I got mine in smoke color to go with the stock screen. The air stream doesn't quite clear my helmet, about eye level, but so much smoother ride.

I also just ordered one yesterday for my XT. Was curious about how you go about finding what is the best height to mount it at. Trial and error?
