Hey guys. Been reading a ton on this forum since I bought my 06. A thread that I always find helpful on any forum is one in which newbies like me can ask all the basic questions. Keeps it all in one place and makes it easy for future owners to find answers.

I'll start it off.

1. Obviously Buells have a rough spot right around 2100 RPMs. I've noticed that mine also has a slightly less rough spot right at about 4200 RPM as well. Do you guys experience the same thing?

2. How often does your fan kick on when riding?

Welcome to the forum,

1. 2100rpm? Other than pulling away from a stop, I'm not sure that I've ever run at 2100. As far as 4200, are you describing a vibration peak or rough running? Since the engine is on soft mounts, there are rpm ranges where more ( or less ) vibes will get through.

2. Almost never. I have an '08 with the original fan programming. It takes a lot of slow traffic to get the fan to run.

I'm not holding at 2100, I just mean accelerating or decelerating through that range and to a lesser extent right around 4200 as well.

As far as the fan goes, I had about a 15 min freeway ride followed by 10 min on side streets today. About half way through the side streets, my fan kicked on and didn't turn off until after I got home. It was only like 73 degrees out today so I was just suprised.

The pattern you describe (fan) matches that of my 13,000+ mi (maybe 14k now...haven't looked in a while) '07 uly.

if I come off of any highway speed mileage and then have to putt thru town, it does the same thing and, barring another run up to speed with max air flow, will continue with the fan until I shut it down (and then for a few minutes after).

Congrats on the "new" Uly. You'd probably also like to check out this thread for new owners info:

Yeah, I've already read through each one, but most of the time my questions are kind of lame and require a different thread. Hope this thread stays alive with the simple ones.

I have an 06, with about 15k on it. No comfort kit and stock ECM. If I'm not cruising at highways speeds, I'd say after about 30 minutes of riding my fan is pretty much on all of the time. I'm a new user too and I just assumed that its just "that goofy Uly fan."

I have an '08 w/c23K on it. Only time the fan comes on is in extended low speed traffic. (Like 15-20 minutes worth) & when the bike is shut down.
I haven't had the fan come on whilst riding normally. (I have the comfort kit installed).
I haven't noticed any unusual running anywhere in the rev range but my bike will cough a little off idle when cold.
Congrat's on your acquisition & welcome to the site.

My 06 will have the fan come on over the Mississippi river every morning! I ride 12 miles of interstate and then hop off and ride three miles in town and then cross the bridge into St. Louis. Half way across the river the fan comes on, every morning! Now it's always 5 degrees or so warmer in the big city and the fact I've spent the last 3 miles at 35 mph with occasional stop signs adds up to just not enough cooling half way across the river.

My '06 is almost at 19k and has no performance/temperature mods. I don't recognize your rough spots on my bike - runs smoothly through the revs. Like Schwiggy, however, my fan (original) is quite active, and always has been from when I got it new.

Today was a bit humid, and it ran plenty. I don't question it.

27 mile commute every morning, fan only comes on in the afternoon if there is heavy traffic, it does come on after shutdown both to and from work. Smoothest engine revs are between 3k-4k. I like to keep it at about 3500, I hardly notice the rough spots because I don't linger anywhere but 3k-4k.
