I have consistently made in the mid to upper 40's for mpg. Then last week I had two little trips and the mileage went to the mid to low 30's; and this was on two lane 65 mph roads. I noticed that when I shut the Uly off there was a strong gasoline odor. I hope to get some time this next week to do some looking; but anyone have any idea of where I should start looking.

It is a 2008 X with 36,000 miles on it.

I would start looking in the area of the fuel pump, hoses, and under the air box base for leaks also around the fuel breather near the fuel cap.

Larger percentage of alcohol in the fuel?
Grab some E85 maybe?

If you think it's a leak, you should be able to detect it pretty easily if you let it idle in one spot for a while.

If it doesn't end up being a leak, perhaps a temp sensor is telling fibs to the ECU and your "choke" is on.
