From last Sunday to today, I've put on 650 miles-I have remembered how much I love this bike!! The grin factor is in full song!!

Right before the end of riding last year I spooned on some PR3s, never really even got them scrubbed in decent. Now that I have some miles on them, man I really like them. I came from Conti Road Attacks, and those are great tires also. Just feel so stable on the PR3s.

Unfortunately, the inevitable finally happened today....broken latch. What is the best course of action/place to obtain a replacement. I don't use the bags that much, just on trips, so I'm not interested in getting different ones.

Just curious, Jon, did the latch fail from vibration/age or was it an over stuffing or not-lined-up closing issue? Just wondering if knowing about the cheap design and treating them 'delicately' helps or if eventual failure is just a matter of time. Thanks

I got these bags with my '06 Uly, like 6.5 years ago. I did know about the weak latch and always close them carefully. That is to say, I compress the bags before latching. What's weird is that I had like a premonition about it breaking. I went to church before leaving to go to the other side of the state and on my way I thought "You know I should have a safety strap on these bags." When I got to church, the latch was broken, but still holding the lid closed.

What dealer are you getting the for $20 at? I stopped into the dealer in Appleton last night and was quoted $38!!!

They are made by Heppco Becker. Try them for a price? And yes use a strap.

Thanks Jon, and best of luck. That 'about $20.' above appears to be inaccurate. Here is American Sportbikes' write-up. Not sure of the date so the price may have changed:

17368 - Side Bag Latch Kit, XB12XT Ulysses
Side bag Latch Kit for XB12X/XB12XT Ulysses Models. These are the latches for the big Hepco Becker bags. They are somewhat fragile and aren't hard to break if the bag is overfilled. These are replacement OEM parts. Note: These do not come with the key lock mechanism installed. You will need to transfer the lock from your broken latch into the new latch.

Price:

$42.95
