Hello, i've had an issue withe neutral light not coming on, i know the cable must be some where close the steering split or worn out, just need to know the color of the cable to repair it, i'll cut it and add a bit more and put some of that shrink cable cover and possibly grind down the cover that holds all the cables in place so it stops the problem.

Thanks.

No the bulb is fine as when i turn the steering the light comes on so i'm sure the cable has rubbed trough and just needs to be repaired.

I would recommend a service manual, if you plan on keeping the bike. In the back of the svc-manual there are the wiring diagrams that have helped me. If I remember, when I get home I'll look up the circuit and let you know.

Hello Uly_Man I have a manual and can see the diagram but i don't have a clue of electronics, so what i just need to know is witch cable it is going from the dash board so i can trace it and not follow the wrong cable, as is the only issue i have and i know the problem is where the steering is as turning from side to side the neutral light goes on and of depending on the position

This is not electronics. Follow the colour coding on the diagram IE R is red etc. If you are not sure about what you are doing then get someone who does.

Okay, at the instrument cluster the wire is colored (TN/Y, how it is listed on the print) Tan with Yellow strip. Goes to the Brake/horn/muffler diode, which lives in the fuse/relay assembly next to the battery. On that same end of the diode there is another wire that is the same color and it then go to the Neutral switch. The ground for that circuit is the one that is also the battery ground (GRD2), located on the seat frame area on the left side. Basically just to the left of the battery, follow the neg lead and that were it is. Have fun taking apart the wiring harness under the flyscreen, Good luck

I had this happen to me when my 2006 Uly was just a baby...within the first 100 miles. Dealer replaced the neutral sensor and all has been good for the last 50,000 plus miles!

Yes....neutral switches fail...mine did, I'd pull the belt cover can pop the push on connector and ground it to see it the light goes on....the steering could be a red herring

Ditto for the neutral switch failing, from memory you can test it and see,but when my dash light went out I replaced the switch and have not had a problem since, check it before you go looking for wires.

When it happens to go on or off when turning the bars, I would first check the two ground wires at the steering head behind the headlights. These can look good and be bad, you need to take them off to inspect the wires at the ends.

Next I would suspect the red wire triple splice in the bundle of the steering neck. It is the usual suspect there. It sometimes affects the gages in different ways when it is failing. Mine started out with the fuel light coming on all of the time to having the gage needles sweep at random times, to loosing the memory on the clock and trip-ometers.

When this wire splice fails, it seems to be noticed with different things failing first.
