I had syncs on my xb and trails on my 1125r, and even with my 160mph jaunts I am still at over 10k miles of life on them. They are nearly used up, I'll have roughly 12k on them when I swap them out. They handle great, fantastic in the wet. I never got a chance to try them off road, but I imagine it being the same as the sync. My only complaint is noise, the front tire is really loud especially leaned over. | ||

Check out Chaparral Racing. They have Syncs front and rear at a good price.I just ordered a set of Avon Storms from them.Best deal I could find | ||

I'm sorry to hear that, the cycle hill is garbage (I have one  ), but the more expensive nomar systems are nice. | ||

The machine is subpar compared to the higher level Nomars, it does a terrible job holding the rim, making it a pain to mount/dismount, the bead breaker on the CH requires you to put the wheel on the ground to get scratched up, and they used the cheapest paint they could that flakes off just looking at it. I regret not spending the $200ish more for a Nomar Jr | ||

Garbage is a strong word. Save that for the crap from China. Natexlh1000, I have a Nomar Classic. Technique is important when using these machines. Watch the videos carefully. Preheat your tires in the sun. When putting on the tire, if you have trouble with the opposite end of the last bead walking on you, consider buying the "Yellow Thing" from Nomar. | ||

I had challenges finding the Syncs late last year, but the H-D warehouse had plenty of them. H-D dealer got them pronto. Not sure if this is the situation now, but fwiw. | ||

I found the original D616 got better mileage than the Scorpions but I use BT023 tyres on the back now. Much better longevity. | ||

I finally got all my gear together and tried it out on my front rim. I got it to work but the clamping is not so swell. I used a strap tied to the wheel to keep it from turning. It was a real workout because I didn't heat the tire up first. I just put the rear in the oil burner area of the basement. I'm not fighting that fat bastard cold! I may have to redo the front rim since I noticed the heavy marks AFTER I mounted it so they are at some random location instead of opposite the valve stem. | ||

just bought a sync for $222 on ebay 180 55 17 trails are 320 in the shop, got told by a rep that syncs are being discontinued in Australia and trails will be the chosen breed cheers Jed | ||

I was actually going to poke this thread back to life with a positive review of the Scorpion Trail tires. Today I took my first "real" ride with the new tires. Up to now, the rides have all been to work and back. I rode some really great twisties in western MA and southern VT. These tires are just great! They turn in very neutrally and don't do anything odd in a curve when the brakes are applied. 333 very good miles today. I'm a happy little fella. | ||

I was a big Sync fan on the 9sx, but I have moved on to the PR2's on the Uly because it just ate the syncs too fast. Now that the trails are available in the "rigth" sizes, I don't know why anyone would buy the syncs anymore. The trails appear to be syncs, but with more rubber that can wear before you have to throw away the tire. If you have ever seen a sync worn down to near the cords, and how thin they are at that point, it's pretty terrifying. Just ask Alex (who had to drive three hours to pick me up in the middle of nowhere after hitting something innocous with a worn out sync and having it rip two big holes in the tire). | ||

I'd be interested in knowing what type of miles people are getting with the trails and what type of riding. | ||

The drive wasn't a big deal, but Heather and I did have to cut happy hour short... My Uly mowed through the syncs- I had one rear that lasted about 2k miles, most of which was hard two up riding. Had another last all of 2500 miles, most of which was solo. I'm now running PR2s as well, which aren't really good at all for offroading unless it's just gravel and dry, but have been very pleased with the mileage so far and they feel great. Perhaps I'll give the trails a shot too, it's not all that hard to change tires and I've got the tools at the house and could switch back and forth. |
