Well, maybe it is, but what's it worth?

Long story short, I have an 09 xp. Great condition. Bags. Comfort kit. 12k miles. I've ridden it once since buying my triumph last year.
I love the bike. I love buell. I believe in it, and could see myself buying another if EBR does something interesting. I'm not one to have multiple bikes, ESP those that serve the same purpose for me. The bike just sits in my garage. Not being ridden.

Someone local is interested in buying the bike. Honestly, I hadn't planned on selling it. I don't need the money, but insurance is due, and really it should be ridden, not just sit there right?

It looks like comparable uly's are in the $6-8k range. Not too bad really. Has the value of XPs gone up at all? I'm just trying to get an idea of the bikes current value.

I don't know. My dad keeps telling me to keep it. "you have a piece of history! It'll be worth something some day!" I just look at it as a bike that doesn't get ridden as it should and maybe someone else should be enjoying it.

Thoughts?

I'm at 13K and really want to keep my Uly for a while. I could park my bike in your garage for a spell and give your Uly some seat time so it doesn't get all dried out and full of cobwebs.

If you don't want to sell it...don't.

I disassembled and sold my old '72 Satellite wagon bracket-race car / street car years ago. Didn't really want to, but had the same thought process you're having - "I don't use it so somebody might as well enjoy it". At the time, I also did not have a garage for it, so it was sitting outdoors...so it was the "humane" thing to do for the car.

Missed it instantly.

Looking on eBay, found what I thought was a similar car. It was MY CAR.

So, I bought it back, 2 years after I sold it.

Silly? Sure. But, I won't sell it again!

I love my Buell. If I had two bikes like you and wasn't riding it I would only consider selling it to the right person. Let me explain.

It's funny how we personalize things but we create emotional ties to some of our possessions. My 06 Buell was just such a thing. It was the first bike to rekindle my childhood love of riding. I put 25000 miles on it in just over 2 years. That's the most mileage I ever put on a bike and is a testament to the spirit of the great bike Erik builds. When I lost it in the early days of the recession it sucked. Now that things have gotten better financially I have been fortunate to be back in the Buell camp on my new to me 2008 Ulysses.

With all that said, if I had two bikes and could sell the Ulysses to someone who i thought would get the same joy out of it that I did, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. If I thought for one minute they would trash it or just turn around and sell I'd keep it instead.

To many of us, our Buells are like our pets. They must go to a good home where they will be loved and appreciated. Consider selling it to the right person otherwise keep it in the family.

You could keep it as a Sunday ride. Use the Triumph for the grunt/wear and tear type of riding and keep the Uly in pristine condition. Ultimately, the value of something is determined by you and not the market.

Ratbuell has a point. If you even remotely think you'll regret selling it don't.

And to qualify the sentiment:

If you can AFFORD to keep it.

I'm lucky in that I don't have an extravagant lifestyle...so I can afford to collect garage toys : ) I still own (and drive) the very first car I ever bought new. Some call me "cheap" because I never buy new stuff...but like Mark says...I like my old stuff. It's kinda like family.

My rule is: if the bike sits a year without moving under its own power; it's time to sell.

Far as what it's worth. As always, what someone will pay you for it.
My stock '06 Uly, would probably bring in less than $5k.

Should you keep the bike?
Yes.

Just ride it 50 mi / month. That will keep cobwebs at bay, mice from eating your wiring, oil from too much condensation, rings from sticking...& anxiety attacks from stressing over getting rid of it. It likely aint gonna depreciate much more - and ya cant replace it with a new one. Keep it for now - ya can always sell it later. I love my 2 tigers - but really regret selling the Uly.

Good to see you posting here, Jphish! I missed you. As I was reading your post I thought, um, 'he didn't follow the advise he is giving'! Then I came to the "but really regret selling the Uly" part and understood.

Hey, you gave us a good tip on the Michelin Pilot Road 3's! Seriously, after having my XT for 2-1/2 years, and loving it, I have a hard time understanding why you and a guy from Billings, etc., sold. Uly's are a GREAT bike!!! I had a GREAT ride today! Come on back, Man, but whatever you decide to do, please stay in touch and keep posting.

Thanks guys. Still not sure what I'll do, but I think I'll take it for a ride tomorrow to make it more difficult.

Ratbuell, you know this bike. You're the first Bueller I ever met when I was on my way to RI from Nashville after buying it. You set up the first service in . Thanks again!

Buellerxt - I'm just glad BB&D site lets us Buellless types still log on - hate to leave this eccentric family. However... I seldom follow my own advice...safer that way. Glad to see you still got your XT. Jim - we're working hard here trying to save you from sellers remorse. Help us out Man! j

Hey Rat...how many miles on that first new car of yours? I dreamt of getting my first real car back and putting it on a slowly rotating lazy Susan thing in a gallery area of my dream house (I have neither, still). It would be fun to have that car back (okay, okay, it was an '82 Toyota Corolla 2-door with Maserati badges and tridents), but I know it would have about a jillion miles on it by now.

74,000 miles. I keep it for nice days because I have documentation from Chrysler that they built 150 with this major option package, and 26 in my color combination. I found out about the rarity about a year and a half after I bought it (knew it was pretty unusual when I bought it, but didn't know HOW rare), so after that first year it hasn't really been a "daily driver".

I'm waiting for the salt to get rinsed off the roads. I wanna take her for a spin!

Wow Joe. That car looks pristine. I had a 25th anniversary Trans Am that was white with white wheels. It's a sharp looking combo. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Yeah, hard to believe quite a few of the miles were 1/4 mile at a time. Back in "the day", I intercooled it...swapped to a 60 trim Garrett turbo (from the stock Mitsu turbo), upped the boost from 7psi to around 24psi, upsized the injectors, put on lowering springs (still on it) and a 2.5" no-muffler exhaust (also still on it). It's back to stock now...except for the springs and exhaust, and a factory race ECM with a 14psi boost goal. I still have my Autometer air/fuel gauge and boost gauge installed, so I know I won't pop anything : )

My '89 is still a beast, though - 60 trim VNT, underdrive pulley, 18psi computer, 2.5" exhaust, +40% injectors...even Carroll Shelby looked under the hood of that one and asked "*I* didn't put that turbo in there, did I?"

Yes, the stock airdam is still with the car...it didn't clear the trailer ramps.

And then there's my recently-resurrected '87:

My rat-rod. 2.2 bottom end replaced with torquier 2.5. Super70 Garrett, +40s, underdrive pulley, ported intake and exhaust, 2.5" straight exhaust (no cat, no muffler), 58mm throttle body (up from 46mm), 3BAR MAP sensor, currently running a low 18psi boost goal until engine break-in is done. Got it running so I could move...drove it a few miles just for grins...DAMN, I forgot how fast that thing spooled up!! : )

25th T/A...turbo? With the GN motor? Mmmm...always wanted one of those, along with the GNX that I "forced" my dad to test drive in '87. I still feel bad for making that salesperson turn that shade of green when I took the wheel...heheh

Hmmm, looks like a '79 Sedan De Ville too? With the high-beam switch on the floor at the left foot?

Caddy isn't mine, just belongs to the guy who lives near the garage I used to store the cars in.

I do have my '72 Satellite wagon, though, with the left foot highbeam : ) It is waiting patiently for the 5.7 Hemi swap I have planned...got all the bits, just need time to make it happen.

Yes...I have entirely too many toys. But...the dogs don't hold it against me : )

I've owned allot of bikes through the years and even though some of them weren't the greatest of machines, I still wish I had them all back. I hate selling something I didn't have to just to yearn for it in the future. Bikes are like a fine wine, most of them get better with age.

"Thoughts?" All I will say Jim is that it is not the bike for you. Sell it on to someone who will get the best from it.
