I had a 'relationship' with another motorcycle (purchased a 2007 FXD). I was enjoying her for a while and it seemed the whole time that the Buell wasn't quite as quick... or quite as smooth...

I don't know what it was making me feel this way because it is quicker and smoother than the FXD. I sold the dyna a couple weeks ago and am back to one bike in the stable... I don't know why but all of the sudden the Uly is starting to feel like her old self.

It feels fast again... it seems smoother... as smooth as it ever has... I'm 100% sure it is me and my perception but I feel that it is overall a happier bike to know that I stuck with it even after fooling around with the younger sexier machine.

I'm loosing it!

No you aren't. The FXD is a rubber-mount big twin with a LOT more mass to soak up the vibes. And it is torquier. Not by a lot, but it is. Think "smallblock vs big block".

The 06-up dyna is actually a quite good platform. I still remember dragging mufflers around Vegas Motor Speedway trying to keep up with Tripp Nobles...fun times : )

Yeah... it was kind of a dumb purchase (not as dumb as in '06 when I traded in my XB12S for a 2006 883R which I had for exactly 2 months before trading that in on a 2006 XB12X which I currently have still).

I had a 1999 FXD that I did some amazing trips (tail of the dragon, Sturgis and back going north over lake superior) both with my dad and I don't know why but I thought the '07 would have the magic that '99 did but it just didn't do it for me no matter how many thousands I threw at accessorizing it.

The '07 was definitely faster then my last big twin Harley ('02 Night Train) but still like you said a different kind of fast... more like hot rod dragster as opposed to a Lotus or Corvette.

I'm still jonesing for a Motus though and will most likely make the move when it becomes available but am really happy with the Buell right now. By far the longest I have ever owned a single vehicle. The only other close one was my '06 Colorado which I had for 3 years so the XB12X was/is definitely the right choice.

I've got an '07 FXDB (Street Bob) as well as my Uly. The HD doesn't get ridden nearly as much...it looks incredibly cool and is lots of fun to ride, and actually gives me more confidence to lean it over (probably because of sitting so low) but it's just not comfortable after an hour or so. No luggage, either. Crazy to keep it, eh? I still want a cruiser, so maybe I'll change the setup or trade it for a Street Glide or something. Or a Diavel.

For the money... and especially for the amount I would ride it. I think a cheap used import cruiser would be the way to go...

Think honda valkyrie. Grab one for 5k and have a sweet powerful cruiser that turns heads.
