Ok so now that I have very little time to ride I am thinking why not try a Superduke?? Sure I LOVE my Buell but I figure I can always go back if I don't like it.

Just curious what are the Pros and Cons the Uly VS the Superduke does the Duke have the soul of the big V-Twin I bet not but what does it have the Buel does not have?? I posted my Ulysses up for sale and may have found a Duke in my area is the reason I ask.

Thanks.

Superduke is a pretty fun ride. I have done a bunch of laps at Mid Ohio on them and they sure are fun to ride.
They seamed a little buzzy at the upper rpm range... but most bikes are.

DO NOT STOMP ON THE BACK BRAKE like ya would on a Buell!

I'd go for Duke if it was me...

I got a short test drive on one. No chance to really see how it handled. Motor was like an SV650 on steroids, less low end grunt, more revvy midrange than the Buell. Performancewise I suspect it would leave the Buell behind. But I wouldn't have traded my XB9S for it, just like the feel of the Buell and really do not need that much performance. It is really a matter of personal preference

Duke has less torque and higher maint costs, not to mention a limited dealer network- oh wait..

I test rode a Super Duke and it's a fun sport bike but not nearly as comfortable to ride as a Uly. I wouldn't trade my Uly for one! I still think that my 2006 Ulysses is the best all round motorcycle ever made.

I agree with Cyclonedon I did try the 990 SMT not bad but above 6k revs it started to vibrate din't expect that from a KTM and no wind protection as the Uly, and thinking of having to lube a chain, and clean it and for sure change it every 12-15k miles + the worn out sprockets..... well my personal opinion is that the Uly has much more in it than the KTM.

Chalk and cheese really. They may both be large capacity V-Twins but that is as far as the similarity goes.

The Superduke is really a naked sports bike and is very fast, handles brilliantly and huge fun, but you wouldn't want to tour very far on it! Think of it more as a supermoto on steroids rather than a road bike. Build quality and standard equipment is superb and far better than most Japanese bikes.

If you want more of a Ulysses type bike then as Pontlee says, go for the 990SMT instead. It is probably the most popular bike in the KTM range at the moment.

I rode one the last time they had them at March Badness. Oddly enough the thing that bugged me the most was the noise and slop of the chain.

It made getting on my used Uly feel more like the Uly was the new bike.

There is an interesting comparison of the Uly and KTM 950 (I think that is the model). Don't have the link handy but if you google Buell Ulysses KTM comparison you should be able to find it.

I'd say the Superduke is more comparable to the Lightning Long; as in, sportier than the Uly, and less comfortable. I got to play with one for awhile at Mid-Ohio, and after riding all the different Buell models earlier in the day, I had no problem hopping on and dragging my knee; it has a similar overall feel (as opposed to the RC8, which was completely different).

If you are looking for something different, but not too different, it'd be a perfect choice. I'd also look at the Triumph Speed Triple (or street triple, whichever is the bigger motor, I always get them mixed up.)

A friend of mine has a SuperDuke. We swapped bikes on a ride. As long as you don't ride for more than an hour at a time, need to carry much, or pay for your own fuel, it is better than the Uly.

"Ok so now that I have very little time to ride I am thinking why not try a Superduke??" An interesting concept. Are you an accountant or a banker by any chance?

I went to a KTM demo and rode orange all day. The bikes I rode were 990ADV, MST, Duke and Super Duke.
The ADV was a big dirt bike but rocked.
The MST would have been in the stable over the ULY, if the ULY wasn't there first.
The Duke rocked for a thumper but didn't fit my body.
The Super Duke was very fast but not very comfy.
So in conclusion i would no way get a Super Duke over a ULY, but definitely a SMT over a ULY.
Just sayin

I think what I will miss the most is the MPG's of the Buell. The extra cost is not a huge deal but on a longer trip with other bikes it could be a pain to keep the tank full on the Duke.

I sure like the style of the Duke. Hmmm how cool would it be to have the style of the Duke built into the Buell's and keep some of the Buell comfort belt drive ect.

Uly = low maintenance + moderate repair costs/effort

KTM = high maintenance + moderate/high repair costs effort

Maker specs, input from people and forums help but I find I need to live with a machine a while to know if its going to work for me. A bike is like few other products because the fit, style, conditions rode in, type of riding or anything else is so individual to said owner. A classic example would be the choice of a v-twin engine bike over a four. Some like one and maybe not the other for whatever the reason. Some just buy because of the colour and thats ok as well.
