The PO of my Uly threw in a set of Dunlop D616 that he said were take offs. We're these tires ever original equipment on the Uly? I had them mounted last week. The Scorpion Syncs lasted 3,933 miles which I think is pretty typical. | ||

"race take off's" or that he just took them off to put on the scorpion syncs? and yes, the dunlop d616's were what they rolled out with from factory in '06. what year is yours? you can expect to get less miles from a set of these than the syncs (Message edited by nillaice on February 13, 2012) | ||

They were in 06. They went to syncs in 07. 4k is pretty typical for a sync I think, at least that's about what they lasted me. | ||

I got almost 8,000 miles out of the D-616s that came with my '06 Uly. They handled well at speeds up to 100 MPH, and stuck well in rain. My only complaint was that I didn't get 10,000 miles out of them. I put on a lot of miles, and want my tires to last. I'm one of the few who really like them and will admit it on this forum.  | ||

OK. I read your profile and if your son is right and you like to scrape pegs then go with Michelin Pilot Road 2's when the D616's wear out. I've got over 3500 miles on them and they don't show any wear. The PR3's are supposed to be even better. BTW- nice S3! Do you still have it? | ||

I like the metzeler M3 great tyres and have a decent life span, of course i'm not a peg scraper. | ||

My '06 Came with the D616's. Not a bad tire. I got 6000 on a rear and did the same with the Syncs. I did not like the 616 front nearly as well. I was able to drag a peg with the 616. The tread blocks on the rear cupped a fair amount when running them hard. More than once I had the front tire push in a hard corner. My Uly has had the Michelin Pilot Road II's on it after three sets of Syncs. I am much happier with the overall handling and mileage with these tires. I get over 10,000 on a rear. | ||

@ Nillaice -- My Uly is a 2009. It had 2356 miles on the ODO when I bought it last October, and it was running the Syncs. My guess is that the D616s were at the HD dealer when the PO bought the 09. No telling how old they are. I've run Pirellis, Dunlops and Metzelers on my other bikes, never tried Michelin. BTW, I'm not a fan of Dunlops. Sounds like a set of Pilot Road IIs may be in my future if they last 10K miles. | ||

Pirelli Scorpion Syncs are good for 18,000 miles. Even the Scorpion Trails are good for over 10,000 on my 160mph 1125R | ||

My experience. Syncs 4k, scorp trails 6k. I like the trails a whole lot better than the syncs. I wish continental would hurry up with the 180 trail attack. | ||

Pirelli Scorpion Syncs are good for 18,000 miles. Yeah that's about right for me... three Sync rears would total 18K. 616's went 7K or so. One Strada 4K. Roadsmarts went 9K then immediately toast. Going to try PR2's next as soon as these positively bizarre Shinko Ravens wear out, my guess 7K. Maybe if my dinosaur lump-bike had pony wings I too could achieve supra fantastic tire mileage, but I doubt it. It's still a lowly non-1125. | ||

The thing about the Uly is that you can choose your tyres, pads, fuel use, ride style etc to suit your own needs and it will, unlike many bikes still be a great ride. Bimble in town, tour the world or thrash it on a track it can and does do it all. I have had many bikes and done many miles on them. Maybe its just me but I can tell everything the bike gives back to me on the road. The front end is very good and I can feel every groove on a tyre and road surface as if running my hand over it. | ||

I put new steering head bearings in recently and went with tapered ones. Steering feel is even better with those. | ||

I'm one of the few who really like them and will admit it on this forum Crusty, I also like the Dunlop D616 but when my last tire started to wear really bad at about 14,000 miles, I had to replace it with the Dunlop Roadsmarts because it was all the dealer had. So far this tire feels ok so we'll see if I continue to use it or change back to the D616 next time. | ||

I get about the same as Froggy. 3 Rear Scorpions ranged from 16,000-20,000 miles before replacement. | ||

I love the 616. Handle just fine, tread life is about average (I've learned that if I run 38/42 psi F/R, the tread cupping is kept to a minimum), and they're great in the crappy stuff (rode in/on snow today because I felt like riding to work and I've done TONS of gravel and a good bit of singletrack too). And, compared to other tires...they're CHEAP.  | ||

Froggy is a Hyper miler the only way his 1125s hit 160 mph is on the back of a Cargo plane. If your getting 16k your not riding it your pushing it lol | ||

The reason his front tires last so long, is because they rarely touch the pavement. They're usually at about 10 or 11 o'clock. He can ride with some pretty fast people and hold his own. I don't know why he gets such good mileage out of his rear tires. Maybe it's because he weighs less than half of what I weigh? I know why he gets such good fuel mileage, though. It's because he's constantly fiddling with his computer and playing with the ECM. | ||

I have said it before.....Froggy weighs in at about 62 pounds and is aerodynamically no thicker than a cardboard cut out of himself. He cheats the wind, he cheats the torque load.  He also uses a large rubber band device on the rear wheel when slowing to a stop. The rubber band winds up on his tire loading itself tighter and tighter. He holds the brake just to maintain his position. Releasing the brake shoots him off the rubber band like a sling shot. From light to light in the city he never has to start the engine or put it in gear. On open highways he does not start the bike until it has slowed back to a third gear bump start. Froggy also bowls overhand!  He may not be the most interesting man in the World.....but he is fun to watch as he is! | ||

I'm running a PR2 with the B rating right now. I bought it while on a trip after getting a puncture in a nearly new standard PR2 assuming that the B model had a heavier carcass. I've since been informed that what the B model has is stiffer side walls to reduce deformation on heavy or heavily loaded Sport Tourers. It doesn't feel any different than the standard one to me... | ||

Rwven Thanks for the comment, I am currently running the regular PR3 set and I really like them but I am out of tread on the rear at 6,500 miles so I was wondering if the B tires would get me more mileage. I am close to 285 Lbs fully kited less luggage. | ||

If you ride smooth and do not, which kills rubber on a V-Twin, hammer the back end you will get good miles on most Uly rubber. For that matter you will on most bikes. Is not Witchcraft just normal. O no it is. I have just incanted the "no-puncture/bearing fail" ritual. Works every time. 10 bucks PayPay only. (Message edited by uly_man on March 02, 2012) |
