Bought the Barnett clutch kit for my 06 Uly from American Sport Bike and the instructions say "DO NOT use formula+" They suggest ATF type F. Isn't that a little thin for a gearbox? I run Amsoil 20/50 normally. Thoughts?

I use ATF type F in every two stroke dirt bike tranny I have. Great stuff if your gearbox oil is separate from your engine oil. Nice and cheap, and really gets in there and cleans stuff out.

Never tried it in the Buell, but I've been tempted.

I wondered about the stock Harley clutch. Credit where credit is due... I've run my Buells up over 30k miles on the original clutch and never had any signs of slipping.

I've spoken with Barnett about that note, and they told me Formula+ is fine, it won't harm the plates or cause any issues. The reason for the note is that Formula+ is very "sticky", and will make the bike very hard to roll in gear with the clutch in.
Formula+ is what I'd run, stock plates or Barnett.
Only 3500 miles out of a Barnett clutch isn't typical at all.

The Stealership that did my 10 service sent me off on a 1400 mile trip with no oil in my primary to get the tranny cassett replaced with out a court fight i agreed to a barnett clutch install at my cost. the lining came off in chunks and and ate the steel plates. it failed in such big peices it stopped the throw out bearing from turning. Real fun riding out a kill switch shut down bike in a corner. When i took it apart and cleaned out the cases most of the kevlar was gone off the plates. I change the primary lube every other oil change or 2k miles In so fla we have so much humidity its hard on oil additives
Any way went back to stock clutch and it has 97k on it now.

I'm aware of a time when there was batch of defective Barnett plates that were built that had an adhesion problem and the friction pads were coming off the plates. Barnett took care of all of them that I was aware of. Sounds like you got one of those. It isn't typical of the Barnett product from my experience.

I had not heard that Al I needed a new clutch pack and put the stockers in. Ive seen the same problem in some Japanese truck clutches too. Isuzu had the problem in the 80s with Trooper clutches and after market mud tires.

Not a recommendation!

Type F is good for at least 65K miles on stock clutch pack. Had Barnett plates in a '01 FLSTF that had had 70K+ (don't remember how many exactly) with no issues.
