Just picked up an '09 XT with a "Special Duty" Buell sicker on the tank cover, there are no Buell emblems on the tank cover....it seems to have an "X" front end on it, wondering if any one knows about this model and what it was intended for. would it come with the heavy duty wheels too? thanks.

See if the decal looks like the one in one of these pics . . .you likely have an XP without the cop kit

XP without the cop kit is what I first thought it may be. The interesting thing to me is that based on the serial number, it is definitely an XT and not an XP. It came with the conventional touring bags, not the heavy duty black ones I have seen on XPs. I wonder why this version was produced? Certainly not many were made this way?

Post a picture of the bike, I can tell you exactly what it is, be it XT, XP, or a fake.

What color is it?

What front fender?

Are your saddlebag latches (that hold them to the racks) in front, or in back?

Do you have a topcase?

Does your front engine Y mount (on the right side under the RSS) have a flat spot with a hole in it, like something should be bolted to it?

Do your rear turn signals come straight out from the spot between the taillight and tag, or do they come out from a metal bracket mounted between the tag and the black plastic tag mount?
Airbox cover sounds like XP, but like Froggy...without seeing a photo...

The bike is now sitting in a friends garage in the town I bought it in (it is winter here in MT and I did not ride it home), so I can not get a pic at this moment. Can say for sure I bought it from the original owner with all paper work from day one. It is black, the fly screen has no Ulysses emblem on it. 5,600 miles on it with no modifications since it was purchased.
As noted above, the serial number is definitely an XT. Froggy, what would a "fake" be?

Ratbuell questions, it does not have topcase, the front fender is two piece just like on my 09 X. Saddlebag latches are in front....I cannot answer the rest of your questions until I get the bike home where I can look more closely at it. Expect to get home this sunday, so will be able to post pic and answer the rest of questions then.....thanks to all for the info thus far.

One of two scenarios . . .

Your bike is an XT (The VIN does't generally lie.

1) Someone, like me, got curious after hearing all the internet crap about "you have to be a cop to order XP stuff" and simply ordered all the XP parts to see what would happen. I got all mine in a matter of days, including the decals. I never put any of mine on, but they may have.

2) Someone swapped out the air box cover . . perhaps more likely.

Either way . . . it's a great bike and I'll bet you have a ball with it.

I wanted to order the special duty decal to keep me from scratching the plastics when fueling. I don't worry about the plastics so much anymore. I'd rather ride it than shine it. I'd still put one on it if someone would sell it for $10 or less. Most of my stickers are inside the air cover.

Hey Ourdee, What did your local stealer want for that sticker? Mine quoted me almost $30

After reading all your thoughts and comments, I relooked at the original bill of sale...it was for a blue XT. So, I would guess that the owner changed all the plastic to black with the super duty decal...as well as adding the 2 piece X front fender. It really does look good. Mystery solved. Thanks for all your insights! It had me stumped.

Wheel color would give it away too, forgot to ask that. X and XP had the titanium-tone wheels; XT had flat black.

The front-latch bag racks are a giveaway - those are the OEM Journey racks. XP's had Outdoorsman bags that latched in back.

Still a great bike, you're gonna love it!

And Froggy? The large nozzles fit diesels ; )

Ratbuell, the large nozzles don't fit VW diesels manufactured 2005 or later.
They need the small nozzles (even the older middle size nozzle they used for leaded fuel is a PITA to use on these cars).
VW says "We did this to prevent users from using truck diesel in there car"

Tow - even a small diesel nozzle is larger than an unleaded nozzle. It is to keep you from putting diesel in a gas-engine vehicle.

The larger "high flow" diesel nozzles are a freakin' sewer pipe, and they make it much easier to fill my Ram 2500!
