My 06 Uly speedometer needle jumps back and forth after 55 mph or so is reached. It bounces between 30 and 70 approx. At lesser speeds it works fine. I reconnected the red power supply wire in the harness that goes by he neck. This was done because the tach needle sometimes quit working. Actually, it has been doing this for some time but at a much smaller bounce which suggests something inside the speedo housing is going bad. I have also worked on all the grounds I could find. Any suggestions? | ||

Your speed sensor may be bad, it has happened. Or it may have just accumulated some extra debris. Try removing it and cleaning it off. It has a magnet inside the case that can hold metal particles that can block the sensor. Also, make sure the connection is intact and firmly plugged and no wires are rubbed or pinched inside the the sprocket cover. If it is both the tach and speedo, my other guess would be a grounding point. How many miles? | ||

I found something that may be relevant here. I took my fly screen off this winter while installing more farkles and to my surprise there was a dead bumble bee and a monarch butterfly jammed way up under there and lots of bug splats on the INSIDE of my flyscreen. I did take a couple 400 mile trips last summer, but I had no idea so much air flow was getting up under there. I figure it must be coming through at the headlights and plan to seal this cavity off before buttoning it up for the spring time. Not air tight of course cause you want things to air dry under there if you ever get it wet, but just this lower area where the air is getting jammed in. The reason I write about it here is, you might have something flapping around under your flyscreen, or if it were raining, even a bit, I imagine there's things getting soaked under there. Not that this is acceptable, but give things a good once over under there with this info in mind. | ||

Uly_dude, everyone knows that the Uly electrical system has some bugs in it. Brown_e, it could be anything. But everyone's diagnosis will be relative to what they themselves have experienced. Shortly after I started seeing that problem on my 07, the ECM puked. | ||

43,000 miles on it. It is strange, I took the bike out today with the speedometer needle working fine. Will check into the sensor though. Thanks. | ||

Bet your sensor has metal shavings on it when you remove it. (you should remove them if it does, before you reinstall the sensor) | ||

Yep - metal shavings on the sensor. My '09 started doing that with less than 2k miles on it. After cleaning the sensor off, no more problems. | ||
