Everybody and their brother is introducing new ADV bikes. Buell was supposedly going to introduce new 2012 models. This secrecy is getting a bit long in the tooth and some info on the new bikes is long overdue.

What's up EBR?

Everything comes to he who waits!
I am sure that whatever is in the pipeline will be made known as soon as it is available to (us) the general public.
In the meantime, relax, enjoy & have a Happy & Prosperous New Year!

As one who seems to find SOMETHING wrong with every ADV-style bike available, I've been eagerly awaiting something from EBR. Since my '06 Uly is still the most fun bike I've ever owned.

However, I've been thinking a year from now, not now...

I have yet to be impressed. IMHO - There's more palatable styling in a 1972 Yamaha Enduro than what there is in the current crop of ADV bikes. Of course, its in the eyes of the beholder.

Nonetheless, EBR has competition stacking against itself and once a sale is made by the competitors, another customer is taken out of the marketplace. It seem obvious to me the Uly has more "mojo" than the other Buell models and therefore it seems that it would be logical to get the "factory numbers" right with a strong seller.

Proper and aesthetically pleasing styling in the new AX as compared to the ghastly styling of the competition would blow the roof off of the EBR factory numbers.

Of course we all know that the thing will perform better that the competition.

Styling may be important to some perspective ADV shoppers/riders but for me, it's function over form all the way. Heck, I still like tote goats. (google it). All the newer offerings are too heavy, too complicated and/or too expensive. I still have hopes that given Mr. Buell's passion for performance, his offering will be the lightest, best handling bike of it's kind when it hits the streets. As long as I'm hoping, leave all the ABS, TC, etc., etc. off of it and keep the price within reason please.

I too like the old "Enduro" styling. I rode a then new 1978 Yamaha XT500 Enduro through every type of terrain Australia could throw at me without much problem. Dry river beds, bulldust, boulders, gravel roads, mud and water-crossings were a piece of cake. My short legs could reach the ground easily. It was mechanically simple and so much fun. When I dropped it I could pick it up. I have a DR650 now but it isn't quite the same. I have lowered it using the factory setting but wonder why all the 'adventure bikes' have to be so tall. Just can't see the need for it. I'm not intending to motocross the thing.

I can understand having a tall bike if you are tall, but I don't consider big suspension travel all that necessary to go offroad at all.

An 1190 Buell Enduro. Now that might set a new trend.

I can appreciate function over form but most of what I'm reading in blogs supports my ADV styling criticism.

What would Harley Earl do? His Buick Skylark was a masterpiece of form and function.

When I first saw an '06 Uly, I thought it was the ugliest thing on the planet.

I bought one and it's still in my garage.

Well I have pulled up anchor.... I haven't untied from the dock yet... but the harbor pilot is on his way.....

I'm in the process of making my Uly a little more reliable.
2010 wheel is on order
and updated throttle body shaft is on the shelf... I would love to be rid of the Uly and replace it with a E.B.R.

I won't go that far but I sure didn't care for the looks of it but I also purchased one after taking a test ride and still feel it's the best motorcycle ever made for my style of riding.

I rode to the Buell dealer on a Cagiva Gran Canyon. NOBODY knew what it was. I test rode the Buell and ended up getting one within six months. It just fit me better and was a more relaxed ride. The Duc motor in the Cagiva was in launch mode at all times. The clutch was grabby and the motor revved so quick it could be anywhere in a heart beat and was a blast when flogging it on the back roads but was not comfortable for anymore than two hours for me. One ride on the Uly and I was hooked. Oh, I have a 75 T 160 Trident on the shelf in the garage. If I quit riding the Uly long enough I might put it back together!!

Don't do it Tootal. Just dig a hole in the back yard and dump jars full of pennies in to it. You'll have a better rate of return in the long run.

Looks like I'm not the only one who finds the Uly styling a bit off the mark.

Sort of like that athletic girlfriend who'd do anything, but a face that causes train wrecks.

I flat don't care what a big D/S looks like. It just needs to work very, very well. It needs to be reliable, low maint and it needs to be affordable. If Mr. Buell hits those marks, I'll buy one.

D/S A/S makes no difference to me because I'm misusing it anyway. It seems these big DS type bikes lend themselves to being perfect transportation for the construction industry. I can pack my gear, tools, food and water to any damned place they can name.
I love my Uly.

My Uly was a sport bike for big galoots. All day comfortable. Spacious accommodations. Hard luggage.

There is definitely a difference between an "adventure sport" and a "dual sport".

If you are having a hard time finding knobbies to fit, it's an Adventure Sport.

We all know that as long as its not a BLAST, its going to go like like a scalded dog. The new bike will have to be better than a Uly, which can be a tall order.

IMHO, there is a huge opportunity to score big with a hot rod ADV bike that is styled like an American. The JACK PINE TRIUMPHS and THE BOTT BUELL is a very reasonable start. Do you remember the tail of a 69 Superglide? Or the fairing on the HD FXRT [ Erik had a hand in that one ].

There are classic and timeless designs out there. The ADV bikes from Europe and Japan have taken aim at a concept of styling that seems to emphasize function - however - function is function. We all know what a Uly functions like.

The trick is to seamlessly integrate superior function into sleek, classical, timeless, and streamlined styling. The current crop of ADV bikes miss that mark. I've seen better looking bull dozers on strip mines.

Life is too short to own an ugly bike.

I want a bike that works, but I also want a bike that makes me take pause walking in from the garage to gaze over my shoulder for an extra few seconds.

The VStrom is a very capable, good value machine.

That said, it's ugly. REALLY ugly. I wouldn't buy one just because it's ugly. The Uly is simple and elegant. I bought it because it worked and it was visually appealing.

I expect the next iteration from EBR of the AX will be visually appealing as well. The HD bean counters aren't looking over his shoulder on this one.

+1 on the ugly factor. I found the Uly to be gnarly and interesting-in-a-good-way...very different, which is a great thing.

Although I'm very drawn to the new 1200cc adventure bikes coming out for their capabilities, especially the Super Tenere, I just don't feel anything from them. The Triumphs at least look a bit "meaner" than the Yamaha.

Heck, put bags and a tall handlebar/windscreen on the new Honda VFR1200 and I start to say "hmmmm...."
