Making sure we are getting our money's worth on Netflix, and just stumbled across and enjoyed a film called "One Week". It's about a guy diagnosed with cancer who decides to buy a Norton and head west across Canada. Found the "whaddya do" premise of movie appropriate for the first day of 2012. If it were me, might not necessarily be on a Norton (not enough hard bag space for my dry socks) but I may have the same response to haul booty and head cross country. Although not netflix, we dug "Long Way Round" and "Long Way Down" last year, but are always looking for quality stuff to watch instead of the nonsense that is usually on t.v.. Recommendations??? Ahhh! Never Ridden a Norton on Good rides then... Most Confidence Inspiring, Comfortable, Competent MotorCycle's I've ever ridden, immaculate 73 850 Commando. Only the Uly has Matched that. truly. Love those Looong Stroke Engines! Rode it after swapping buddy for my 71 240Z, around the Annapolis/Tidewater area back roads in 75... Flattracking Pavement! It was Ready! just Wanted to be ridden like that. Fell in Love, 1st road bike to do that! Have a cousin on Kauai, has two of them in his Garage, Ready... I Wanna Go RiDE! never mind, back to your regular program... b. | ||

"Timerider: The Adventure of Lyle Swann" is a good off-road adventure/sci-fi flick that has a good story with Fred Ward as the hero. "Cycles South" is a neat on/off-road flick of three fairly clean cut guys heading cross country from Colorado to Panama having all sorts of adventures like skiing, motocrossing, bull fighting, surfing & skin diving along the way. If you've ever ridden street legal trail/enduro bikes, you'll like this one. | ||

Sparky: Cycles South is good. Kind of reminds me of the old films we use to see in school back in the 70s. Wait, that's exactly what this film is... well, except the sex and drugs... they didn't have those in our movies. | ||

Dust to Glory IS a GREAT movie. It's all about the Baja 1000. I'm not into that kind of movie... but I REALLY enjoyed it. Especially the part where the "used to be honda A team rider". shows them how they made the wrong choice. great flick! | ||

+1 on the Little Fauss and Big Halsy. Just the Johnny Cash song is worth the cost of admission. Don't think its on Netflunks tho. Cycles South was an interesting wanderlust jaunt from the 70s. Spoiler alert: there's nekkid people from a hippie commune in it  Netflix recently purged Fastest Indian from its instant queue. I hate that about Netflix sometimes...stuff just disappears for no apparent reason. There's a documentary about Troy Bayliss on Netflix that was pretty good although I must admit that I sorta watched it as I was painting the living rooms and dining rooms so likely anything short of Hell-o-Kitty would've been better than painting. | ||

Definitely watch World's Fastest Indian if you hadn't seen it yet. The whole family can watch it too, even if they're not into motorcycles as it's just a great film. | ||

Rode my Uly AND Commando this weekend and even bumped into another Norton! Last months CW had a link to a new release of OAS with additional footage and better quality. My Xmas present to me. Never gets old. | ||

I can't help it, I have to +1 on Worlds Fastest Indian. I think it's the best movie ever made of any kind! Anthony Hopkins BECAME Burt Monroe. That is high art dude. Some of the ones I haven't seen like Cycles South and a couple of others above are on my list (not netflix) But after Worlds Fastest Indian, the bar is now set way higher. Million dollar idea: A new cable company that lets YOU CHOOSE YOUR PREFERED CHANNELS. No duplicates, no infomercials (even at 2am) and you get SPEEDTV. Is it ok to dream? | ||

"Dust to Glory IS a GREAT movie." My 12 year old son and I watched and enjoyed it together this autumn. Challenging to find something we can both agree on, movie wise. "It's kind of like a train wreck, you can't stop watching." +1 Yo barry. I'll watch SOA but if it gets to be too skeevy, I'll leave the room. It's a biker soap opera. One complaint is with all the bikes on that show in 4 seasons, I don't think I've ever seen any women driving them. | ||

I quit watching Son of Anarchy when I noticed how amoral everyone was acting. I'm as far from a prude as it gets but have grown up watching t.v. from the time of married couples in separate beds to the trash they bombard us with today. It's no wonder that this world is going to hell in a hand basket. I don't care for gratuitous trash. When did absolute crap replace good writing on t.v. and the movies? For example, 2 and 1/2 Men went from being hilarious to just plain filthy ,sad and completely worthless and all in just a couple of seasons. Kutcher replacing Sheen has been a failure beyond imagination. Sickening.  Sorry. | ||

I quit watching Son of Anarchy when I noticed how amoral everyone was acting. So, having worked on a couple of reality shows, I'll let you in on the dirty secret. It's really not reality, it's more of an unscripted script. The producer typically has the storyline he or she wants, and gives the folks some hints on what to do or what they are looking for in a scene... Oh, and on one of the shows I worked on, we didn't even use the real folks, we used people who's store or services fit better with what the producer wanted. If the people are acting amoral, then chances are that's how the producer wants them to act and has told them that. I've never liked "reality shows" and after working on a couple in the past, it really turns me off watching them. There are exceptions ... I do watch Ice Road Truckers every now and again, but I also know it's one part reality and two parts fiction. Wayne | ||

Oops, except SOA isn't a "reality show". It is, well, a show about fictional outlaw bikers drawn from bits and pieces of stories from actual outlaw MCs, mixed with a good dose of soap opera. It's kind of campy at times, which makes me chuckle. It's drama, it's escapism. Won't make me act immoral, just like the music I listen to won't. I'd almost say it's not necessarily the CONTENT of TV, but the AMOUNT. There's just too much, and people have a hard time breaking away from it enough to be creative or active or inquisitive on their own. TV producers have to keep their viewers - some do it with really good writing and acting - some do it with shock value or fantasy/escapism. Anyway, who's psyched about the new season of The Bachelor!  |
