I took my 08 XT muffler to a shop to have it sandblasted and ceramic coated. I will replace the front muffler strap and Torco clamp with new parts I bought from my dealer. I was planning to replace the rear straps too, which are about $20 each from H-D. Being the cheap-a$$ that I am, I thought maybe I could go directly to the company that made the clamps in the first place and buy direct. I called Five Star Mfg and they were very courteous but said they do not sell to the public. They told me to contact a company named Anixter, who they sell these clamps to. I called Anixter and after being transfered about 5 times, I got hold of a guy who was very helpful and friendly. He took down my part numbers and said he would call me back, which he did. Bad news. He found out that they have a minimum purchase of 25 pieces. I asked the price and he said they were about $20.00 each unless you buy 250 or more, then the price drops way down to about $6.00 each. He also mentioned the last ones they sold were to a company called (you guessed it) Buell.  To make a long story short, I guess I might just as well fork out the dough to my dealer for parts, unless he can't get them anymore. Oh well.... | ||

i got some from napa. the clamping diameter youre looking for is 6.12 inches get the larger size if in doubt. | ||

The front and the rear are different sizes. I don't recall the exact size of either. | ||

Guys, have any of you bought and compared the straps from marine supply stores to the stock factory clamps? I know a while back some BadWebbers tried them but said they were not as heavy duty as the Buell straps and some had trouble. I don't have time right now to do a search, maybe later. Thanks. | ||

I have found the marine straps are not as heavy duty as the Buell ones. However, your local hydraulic shop should have them in the flavor you need for less than $10. | ||

Why not get the straps from D&D they are far better than stock and I don't think they're to expensive. | ||

I got the deep blue sourced clamps. They are not as beefy as the factory clamps, but that being said, i think it has held fine for 5000 miles so far... to be honest, I can't remember if I swapped it back out for stock or not... | ||

I've had the Deep Blue clamps on my bike for the better part of 27k miles. And, yes they have been removed and reinstalled several times. As has the (original) front strap and Torca Clamp. Most important part is observing the torque procedure and specs. The rest is in the fitment of the muffler to the header and mount saddles. | ||
