Could be junk in the AIS motor - it's a little motorized plunger that opens/closes via computer control, to regulate the idle speed. Sometimes carbon buildup can get to them and clog them up. You could always pull it yourself and clean it with carb cleaner, to see if that helps... |

Could be operator error on cold starts. From sales persons unintended abuse in the show rooms to new owners, many people have disliked their Buells until they learned to not blip the throttle and not touch the throttle until it warms up for at least a few minutes. I say these things not to be rude or abusive, but rather to help enhance the ride. Even though they supposedly have the internal spark plug cleaning ability, plugs are never the same once wet fouled. Often service departments will overlook or dismiss this as a potential problem. |

Also, if they re-mounted that ECM to the old location it may well have failed again due to cracking from contact with the seat base. btw resetting the TPS isn't something you need to visit a dealer to do |

quote:08 TPS procedure (from 08 service manual) The TPS zero procedure should be performed if the TPS or ECM are replaced or if the ECM has been recalibrated. To zero the TPS: a. Set the Run/Stop switch to the Run position. b. Turn the ignition key to the On position. c. With the engine off, rotate the throttle grip from closed throttle position to wide-open throttle position and back to closed position 3 times holding the throttle grip against each stop for 1 full second. d. Cycle the key off and back on. A properly calibrated TPS sensor will indicate 3.7 to 4.2 degrees.
Note that if one turns on the cut-off switch (or has left it switched on), THEN turns on the key, that the bike is ready for TPS resetting. It might be possible that opening the throttle while starting may (in addition to being the quickest way to foul the spark plugs) be messing with the TPS setting. |
