Had a problem a few wks ago....engine had intermittent cut out, then died, but did restart. Then major cut out, died with loud backfire, but would still re-start. all over a period of about 2 wks. Took to dealer. Their diagonosis...."Found broken ground wire to TPS. Replaced with new terminal. Original terminal is no longer available except for in a complete wiring harness. Now bike has different style connectors than stock." Took on a 50 mi test ride and ran well. Hope that fixed it. | ||

I believe it was a ground wire off a plug on the ECM. Mechanic said he used harley connectors. I did not actually see the connector. They said wire was visibly broken near terminal. Bike runs very well now....better than ever actually, most likely because they also reflashed the ECM. Originally ran rough below 3k,and I always ran it in a gear to keep it at 3k or above but now I can run 2k in 5th and it is relatively smooth. Will even accelerate smoothly from there. | ||

I can ride around town in 4th from idle, at a push and spend all day in 3rd with no effort on me or the bike with a little throttle control. Its such a very, very good bike. | ||

So Doc, Now that you have gone full circle from straying away from the Buell to a Multistrada and back again, any thoughts on comparing the two? I already know the Duc has more power, more electronic bells and whistles but I'm curious about how you feel. You seem glad to be back. | ||

"I'm curious about how you feel." As am I? In the UK a new Duke is three times the price of a mint 2010 Uly. I do not know what others would expect from a $20,000 bike but I would want SR-71 performance, from the Duke if the Uly was a DC-3. But then again I am a bike Luddite. More along the lines of the "Scotty" principle of the more complicated it is, the more likely it is to go wrong and harder to fix. Lets see how well the Duke fairs on the Dakar run. |
