two new(er) boots have been available on the US market for about a year now and was wondering if anyone has tried or owns either the Forma or the Weise boots? Both have a lower price point than some of the tried-n-trues but was just curious if anyone's seen them in person or tried them and had an opinion.

Never heard of them, but I just got a pair of AXO Freedom GT WP boots for Christmas and other than some sizing issues (they fit like Sidis rather than like Alpinestars and other AXO boots) they seem really excellent. Also quite affordable.

I've never been able to stand riding boots like that. The bottom of them feels so rock solid that I can't tell what's going on at the bottom of my foot. Feet always slipping off the pegs, can't accurately feel the shift or brake levers.

I prefer a good solid pair of workboots. Sturdy enough to provide quite a bit of protection in a crash, and capable of staying warm/cool/dry in any weather.

These are great, but the steel toe is a bad idea for riding in cold weather.

Red Wing 2426

These didn't come waterproofed, but that was easy enough to remedy after purchase. I don't like the fact that they're made in China as opposed to the $100/pair more expensive American-made Red Wings, but I can't find a single fault with either pair's build quality or craftsmanship.
The aluminum toe in the Setters has never made me uncomfortable in cold weather.

Funny you should bring up those Irish Setters..I was just eyeballing them the other day as I need a new pair of work boots. They are still on the short list of candidates.

I used to ride in SWAT boots, but recently (while getting a tire mounted) got my first pair of SIDI boots.

Niiiicceeeeeee.....

Local shop had in-stock SIDI street boots 40% off, and they actually had my gunboat size in stock in the "Way Rain". Insulated. Waterproof. Tall. Comfy. First day out, I did 150 or so miles - boots not broken in, nothing. No problems.

Very happy camper.

Day after that, rode to work. Wore the boots all day at work...still no problems. Not quite the "ski-boot" sensation I was expecting. Stiff? Yes. Clunky? Nope.

was sorta hoping someone would pipe up and say "oh yeah, the weise/formas are as comfy as the Sidis for less than half of the bean" but I guess they are still too new.

I know the Sidi fit well...and miss it <sigh>. I need to quit fence riding and just buy the daggum gore-tex canyons I want and be done with it.

I have a pair of Cortech boots. They fit well, priced right, water proof but are made from cheap materials. I want a pair like Goose had in Mad Max. or maybe a pair like Keanu Reeves wore in the big gun fight in the Matrix.

Another Red Wing fan here. Hit a deer doing 50mph and the only thing not banged up or hurt was my feet, ankles, and head. Very similar to the boot shown above. They barely had a scratch on them either.

If the boots look good and aren't that pricey, go for it. I know it's time to buy when my wife gets irritated about having to talk about something I want to buy. I then have free reign to purchase at will without repercussion. Not that she's ever busted me around about anything. You there yet? If no woman, you have no excuse, buy what you want!

Aplinestar Scout Boots for me:

Waterproof, comfortable, and not too hot/cold.

Sorry I can't comment on the two you're asking about, but the first link doesn't work, and the second is in a foreign language. I do like the looks of the Forma Cape Horns, if they're waterproof. I even googled with no info on the Formas.

Here is what I ride with every day. Alpinstars Tech 2. I wear size 11.5, so I bought 12's and put gelcell inserts in them to take up just a little room. They fit great and easy on and off.
With heavy socks I have been down to 32deg F with no cold issues.(2 different colors shown)

I have also been known to ride with these on the street/stone roads at times.
Made in USA Chippewa boots.

But for hard core dirt, I wear these.

Note that none of these boots have those nailed on steel toe protectors that get ripped off or scratch up floors.

I wear a size 12 wide. Way too many of the big brand riding boots just plain hurt my 'Fred Flintstone' feet. Joe rocket had the Meteor and Comet (wore through a pair of each) that had decent protection, wide enough and a good price. I had a new pair of the taller ones on backorder for many many months... seems the factory in China burned down... gave up.
Recently purchased a pair of Fly 'Milepost' boots and they've been quite acceptable. Dry when it rains, comfortable at the temperature extremes, easy enough to put on/take off with decent feel on the pegs. They aren't so great for walking (Rockets were very comfortable for wandering about at stops and rallys) and could probably use a little more armor. I'd recommend them as a low cost general duty and touring boot.
I'll probably end up with a set of Combat Lites from the 'stich... if they're wide enough.

It depends on what you want. I have had many a boot over the years and the Sidi Courier is the best I have had. They are real leather and not that fake leather Lorica rubbish thats used on other Sidi boots. I had a hole cut into my Sidi Vertibra boots from a peg which scared me big time.

The very thick leather needs lots of dubbing/ breaking in and they will never have the feel of of a race boot but I find them ok with the Uly and the latest version is said to be waterproof. They also never seem to wear out.

Do not wear steel toe caps on a bike. If a car runs over your foot on Tarmac you may lose your toes.
